A family devastated by Huntington's disease uses the sport of lawn mower racing to raise funds for a cure.
On Your Mark, Get Set, MOW! has been selected by the 2012 DC Independent Film Festival
Thanks for taking a MOWment to have a look at my kickstarter page. I started attending lawn mower races and shooting footage in 2007. In 2008 I approached the Mikula family of Michigan and asked if I could tell their story about how they host an annual US Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) national points race to raise awareness of and research funds for Huntington's disease. Huntington's disease is an inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. The Mikulas, who are among the most successful and respected of the lawn mower racers have been devastated by the disease. Through the use of interviews with the Mikula family, medical professionals, US congressmen, and Arlo Guthrie who lost his father to HD the audience will be educated about this horrific disease.
On Your Mark, Get Set, MOW! will explore the culture of lawn mower racing and explain that because there are no cash prizes there is a sense of community where all racers will help each other out even if they are fierce competitors on the race track.
After going through 100 hours of interviews and racing footage I am at the final stages of editing and have been lucky enough to have John Kinhart (Blood, Boobs, and Beast) as my editor. I am raising money to pay for his services as well as other costs associated with post production.
Please consider a donation to the post production fund for On Your Mark, Get Set, MOW! so that I can tell the story about how the sport of lawn mower racing is on the "cutting edge" in the battle against Huntington's disease. All donations regardless of size are important and please share this project with friends and family. If you would like your donation to be tax deductible please donate via the project's web site at http://www.mowermovie.com.
