One of the recent updates was asking for ideas for house rules and variations and I thought I'd put in my two cents. This may have been suggested already, I don't know. Anyway:
A party game variant for 5+ players:
Two teams of two or more each and one chief. Teams have one collective hand of cards (5, 7 or maybe even 10, whatever seems to work best). Chief presents a target and a death card, and teams have 90 seconds (3 minutes for larger teams) to assemble an assassination plan with 3 cards from their hand.
Chief determines whose plan is best and gives them first crack at the assassination (same as the standard game, assign difficulty and roll for success in 90 seconds or less). If they succeed, they get a point. If they fail, team 2 makes an attempt with their plan, but the target is now aware they are being targeted and every roll is made at a higher difficulty. Points for success.
The successful team may then roll for bonus cards as usual if there is time. These cards are added to their hand over and above usual hand size.
Play till you hate each other, run out of targets, or reach a predetermined number of points.
Fantastic. I think I just missed the mail.
Thanks a lot.
@Jacq – I haven't forgotten! It's still on my list as of update #60.
@Lutz – I messaged everyone with the download link a while back, sorry if it got missed! All the German manuals and cards can be downloaded on our master download page: http://machineofdeath.net/gca/#download
I backed 'Hochspannung'. Did I miss the german translation of the game?
So, did we ever get a Frontalot song and I missed it, or is it still in the queue? :)
Thanks for helping out solving the customs problems! I got my game and everything is fine! Looking forward to bring destiny soon
So... after being cursed by a Wizard, held up in Customs and then sent to completely the wrong end of the UK (We're not a big country, but 400 miles north is a long way off target!), Deluxe Box 42 finally arrived yesterday! :D
So glad it arrived in one piece, clearly the hug the parcel was given as a member of TEAM EXCITEMENT ensured a safe passage.
So glad to have been a part of the journey. Thanks David :)

It's 2am, I just got home from a 16 hour work day and IT'S HERE!
Machine of Death has arrived! Woohoo!
That was so sneaky, David, waiting right until I needed cheering up!
How did you do that? ;)
@David Malki !
It's okay, I just mailed them the order confirmation and then everything was peachy.
Thanks for your answer. Another fine kickstarter dream to come true :)
@Niels – Those are the very last ones, going out this week and next! And then everything's done!!
@Nicolaj – If you need any additional documentation please feel free to email me and I will do my best to help.
@Kristy – Yours shipped on February 26! I hope you get it soon!!
@Andy – Most of the early problems were with FedEx; yours was in a later batch, sent via USPS. I don't know a way around the notice that you received; I wish you didn't have to deal with it, but yeah, you had a pretty big order!! Hard to slip that one by.
I got the dreaded MoD Import Tax letter today in the UK, I was wondering if anyone had any success challenging Parcel Force (Parcel Farce) over this?
I did expect it, as I ordered a lot of swag though!
Still a member of Club Excitement, but am sure it is just around the corner :)
Glad to hear the Aussie games are starting to arrive!
Seems someone is familiar with your work:
I had one of the very pretty and worthwhile boxes, and it just arrived today (Australia) - so very happy! Now I need to convince my OCD to allow me to open everything (I find it so hard to unwrap the plastic from the decks!) and start sleeven'!
So I got a mail regarding some problems with import-documentation, but I think it worked out. I know for a fact that the box is in my town, but I can't get it before I pay the import charges and I can only do that when I get a notice from the post office. That kinda sucks...
Just a short question, if the international german versions have already been shipped out or is that still under construction due to those irritating Fedex issues?
@Malte – The German cards came back from the printer a little bit thinner than we expected, so the spacers were to prevent them rattling around inside the boxes.
Sooo I got an e-mail from Mr. Malki in regards to my damaged box top. I sent a photo and in surprisingly quick fashion a new top arrived in the mail! At first I was dismayed as it wouldn't fit, but I think that had more to do with the fact it was sitting outside in the box during single digit weather. Once it warmed up it fit very snuggly, and seems to hold well. Thanks David a whole bunch for being so attentive to that issue! Not sure what to do with this other top.... maybe keep it as a spare or think of something cool. :)
Got my deluxe box last night, super excited to play. Didn't expect 3 Story War cards, but can't complain :)
just got my box today and i am happy, but why are there carton placeholders in the cardboxes?
Just got my deluxe box today, and spent about an hour going through the goodies.
It looks awesome, and I can't wait to play it! Thanks Mr. Malki, for all your hard work in getting us this game.
I got my deluxe box last week! It looks amazing and has my area code! I can't wait for my Thursday game night!
Also, more exclamation points!!!
Gladness and Celebrations! My game (and a seemingly endless amount of swag) has arrived! I'm having a game night Saturday and can't wait to see how the game is received. Thank you!
Also omg super secret FeralCat acknowledgement. My own feralcat Io (and I) says thank you very much: http://i.imgur.com/zatfhvT.png
Just got my shipping notification! Team excitement ramping up!
@Sarda – I'm glad to hear it! I looked into your case yesterday but didn't really have any answers, I was going to call UPS tomorrow and ask about it. NOW I DON'T HAVE TO
@Julían – Yours is in our batch scheduled to ship in the next 7 days! We're using USPS for all international orders from now on, so I hope the customs issues that others have dealt with won't be a factor. I hope there will not be OTHER issues, but at least I can be confident that there won't be the SAME issues!
Scratch that earlier comment - my package arrived, with all items accounted for and no damage, today. The tracking details still claim UPS hasn't received anything. Given that I had a specific number deluxe box as well as a few extras from the backerkit, I guess I was just very lucky.
There is some way to know the current status of my game? I'm so eager to try the game!
It's a pity all this delay thing, but I think you are managing it in a good way. As a matter of fact I'm preparing classes for a class dedicated on crowdfunding and I'm intending to include MoD as a case on how to react towards your public if you have unexpected problems after the campaign ends. This shit happens, but it makes a lot how the creator communicates it and you do it awesomely, man. I'm a backer in another project with seven f***in' months of delay and the creator DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING FOR MONTHS! Outrageous.
So no prob, man. My only concern now is that customs don't try to fuck me. I know that sometimes happens (I'm from Spain) and the truth is that depending on the amount they expect me to pay (if it happens to me) I'm not sure if I will pay. These are rough months for me ):
Have a nice day!
Sucks about the shipping company, but glad for the update and to hear things are still moving along.
Thanks for the update, David! I appreciate the consideration, and I'm looking forward to my Malki ! approved shipment.
At the very least, I can take solace in the fact that being one of the last 339 boxes means my order will get handled with extra TLC and MAY, in fact (gasp!) be gazed upon by Feral Cat. Suck it, goats!
I guess that would explain why my shipping label is listed as having been created on the 13th, but has not actually been affixed to a package yet.
Here are some updates! I'd hate for people to look at these comments and think it's a blanket of misery when it is, in reality, a patchwork of misery at worst.
@Curtis, your box shipped the day you left that comment (coincidence, I promise), and tracking indicates you received it on Feb. 4th. @Matt, yours shipped on 1/31 and was delivered on 2/7.
@Jeremy, your tracking does indeed say it started a return trip to me on 2/10, sadly. When a package is returned to us, we look up the order and email a link to a form in order to queue up a reshipment. So you'll get that email once the package is received back by us. Brendan is also correct that you can email us with any specific questions.
@Randy, yours shipped on 2/3 and was delivered on 2/7.
@Chaos, yours is in queue to ship TODAY.
@Paul & @Hilary, I've written you separately!
@Timothy – Oh no! Can you please send a photo of the damage to info[at]machineofdeath.net? We'll replace it!
@Omni – Yours is waiting for the shipping company to send me all the specific numbered boxes back. Too many (like Timothy's, I'll bet) were damaged in handling and so I am going to ship all the remaining ones myself. The truck with them is supposed to show up tomorrow or Thursday.
@Srynerson, yours shipped on 2/11 and was delivered yesterday! @Kalem, yours shipped on 2/11 and tracking says it's currently "in rural depot"; I will email you to make sure you get the message.
@Kristy, @Michael S, and @Eric, you're in the same boat as Omni, above. By Friday, I hope!
@Michael K, yours shipped on 2/13 and is due to arrive today! How exciting!
@Emmanuel, I emailed you about the tax matter.
A lot of the last 4-6 weeks has been watching the shipping company's software and grinding my teeth because things weren't going out as fast as I (and any reasonable person) thought they should. Anyway yesterday I fired them and told them to send me all the remaining inventory and I would just do it myself. And now that's what we're doing!
Still waiting for any info on my deluxe box. Hoping for the best though.
Game arrived yesterday for me in Australia. THEN received email with tracking number an hour later. :P
Fedex sent me a bill for the import tax on the game (3 €), which is fine, but they've added 10 € of "processing fees" ! It seems that they always add this (2,5% of the taxes paid, with a 10€ minimum).
What's this crap ? It more than double shipping costs !
Received my Misc. Spiral, pin, and stickers! Eagerly anticipating the actual game, now!
Received my two boxes (Blue-MoD & Red-Side Effects) here in Sydney, Australia! Looks fantastic, I can't wait to get into this!
Still haven't received a shipping order for my deluxe box. US here.
Any news on the US deluxe boxes for people who requested specific numbers? I haven't seen an update for a while.
Australia here too with no deluxe box shipping notice - so no need to worry yet you're not alone.
I believe David said there was a hold on remaining International shipment until the fedex charges were sorted.
Stay strong! :)
My numbered deluxe box made it to Connecticut today. So pretty!
Still nothing here in terms of deluxe box for Australia, anxiously waiting.
Is shipping still ongoing? I haven't received a notice yet and I'm anxious for my officially goat-stared box....
@Tim, good to hear the specific numbered boxes are going out. I'm hoping to see shipping confirmation for lucky box #777 soon! I hope it doesn't arrive in 777 pieces, though.
"The 23 enigma refers to the belief that most incidents and events are directly connected to the number 23."
Today my #23 deluxe wooden box arrived, crafted in its twenty-three pieces. Well, twenty-two. Apparently a side from the top has decided to leave the rest of the group, and splintered slightly as it separated in protest. I'm going to have to fix it, was it just some wood glue then? The bottom has some of the affixing agent bubbled out from between the pieces (that I'll gently sand off) but it doesn't look like normal wood glue. I'm not sure if this is why or how the contents shifted inside the wooden box. The white box got crushinated, and the quick reference card got mangled some as well.
All that unpleasantness aside, it's one stellar product! The dividers are fantastic, the cards look like they'll be a whale of a good time (if you enjoy whales) and the rest of the contents are pristine. I can't believe how much awesome you packed into one game box! I was also surprised to find the badge, pin and art book. Forgotten stretch goal bonus! *air guitar*
I'm very fortunate to have this copy, for both the price and the significant time spent bringing it all together. Thank you David for your tireless efforts and enthusiasm, Kris for your generous creative contributions, Web Pals, backers, and everyone else who had a hand in bringing this from an idea to my side door.
Got my deluxe edition, wow the detail and the wooden box are the best I have ever. I love the box and the artwork on the cards. Best box I ever gotten for any of my games. Everything arrived as it should. I read the rules today and it sounds just like I remember and was expecting. Can't wait to play it this weekend.
Small complaint like others, quality of the cards should be a lil thicker for my liking, but love the art, the wooden box, and I kno ima love the game.
Thanks for a great kickstarter.
Dallas TX. Recieved shipment notification today, 2/5/2014
You got mine! I don't even have a shipping notification yet. Where do you live? Maybe we should write to David if he doesn't see this...
(apart from that German one I should be getting an English one + English sidecar.)
