About this project
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Rock,
The totally epic new musical, Man of Rock, is heading to the New York Musical Theater Festival.
We rocked San Francisco last December, and we cannot wait to rock NY this September--but we can't make it happen without your help.
We have to pay the performers, the band, designers, and the people behind the scenes who make sure nobody gets hurt in the name of rock. And we need instruments and costumes and wigs! You can't do restoration comedy or 80's rock without enormous hair, and all that hair ain't cheap. And then there are the equally important but not as sexy costs like insurance and rehearsal space. We are pretty damn frugal, but it adds up fast.
We think this show is something special and we want lots of people to see it. It's got over-the-top 80's rock, it's got heart, it's got a brain. and it leaves everyone humming Lövesnäke to themselves on the ride home. The SF Bay Guardian called it "a thinking man's Rock of Ages." Being a part of NYMF is a fantastic opportunity for us to bring the show to NY and let big-time producer types check it out. Next stop: the Hämmer tour bus.
What's the show about? "In the summer of 1982, Dorimant, lead singer of Silverwolf, broke hearts all down the Shore with his hit ballad, "Come Down Angel.” But now it's 1986, and he’s still a one-hit wonder. When the hot and brainless JJ Rock rolls into town with his band Hämmer, Dorimant must rediscover the spirit of rock'n'roll, or lose his band, his bar... and his one shot at a girl who can rock as hard as he does. An adaptation of the Restoration comedy The Man of Mode."
We have a great cast, including 2 of our original San Francisco cast members, Danielle Levin & Lance Gardner. And some fantastic NY actors and musicians! It's going to be epic.Remember, Climate Theater is a non-profit theatre company. Your contribution today will help us bring this juggernaut of awesome to New York, plus YOU get a tax benefit as an additional "Thank You" gift.
