We are offering two games in this Kickstarter campaign: "Treasure Hunt" and "Coding is Good" . You have a choice to pick either one or both the games from the different reward options. Scroll down to the end for more details about the Coding is Good card game.

Treasure Hunt is a family board game that teaches kids strategy, cooperation, and critical thinking while thy are having fun playing a challenging and exciting board game. This game is easy to grasp for children as young as five years old. It's the game that the kids love and the adults always secretly want to play!  A fast paced game for everyone

If we get fully funded, this amazing game will be in your hands within three weeks.

Treasure Hunt is the first-ever board game to offer both cooperative and competitive playing.

In Cooperative Mode, players compete together against the pirate who often pops up to snatch away coins on the board. Cooperative Mode is an excellent way to build teamwork and problem-solving skills, all while having a blast playing a game together as a family. This mode is ideal for families with young kids.

The competitive mode is suitable for older kids and adults ( sometimes, younger ones might enjoy this mode as well once they master the game in cooperative mode). The object of the competitive game is to grab as many treasure coins as possible while using ruthless strategy to block your opponents from taking those coins away.

In both modes, every game played is unique; at the beginning of the game the coins are scattered randomly across the board. Lots of replay value!

From CodingFarmers to Treasure Hunt

We are the creators of codingFarmers, the Java programming board game for kids. While codingFarmers was designed to teach programming concepts to kids, in this game, we focused on teaching strategy and critical thinking though a game that is fun to play for kids and adults and that takes less than a few minutes to learn and play.

This game focuses on simplicity over complex rules that take more time to understand. This game can be played with 2-6 players. Kids as young as five years can join the fun too with their older siblings and parents.

Let the coin-grabbing frenzy commence!

In this game, you are an explorer searching through the Amazon jungle for buried treasure amid the ruins of lost cities. In order to find any treasure, you need to cut through the jungle and build roads. Along the way, you grab the gold coins you come across!

How long you want to play is up to you. Use fewer treasure coins if you are pressed for time, You can also keep the coins closer to the center slot for a quick, fun game!

 The Board

Our board stands out right away for its simplicity and minimalist design. That's the unique thing about our game -- the players build the graphics! When the game ends, you'll have a neat looking system of roads crisscrossing the entire board.

When the game begins, keep a junction card in the middle and place the treasure randomly on the board - in various square slots. Make sure to keep the higher value coins far away from the center. Every time you play, come up with a different way to place the coins.

The Pirate

One of you acts as a pirate. In all our trial runs, kids have actually been better pirates than adults! Give them a chance to manage the coins and trading of the junction tiles.

The Tiles

The tiles are the major components of this game. Players use the tiles to build roads from where others have left off. Each player takes two tiles blindly from the sack at each turn. Then, the player places them back to back (sequence them in a smart way to get to the treasure), building from one of the existing road endings. If your tile ends at a coin, you can grab that coin!

In cooperative mode, players work together to grab as many coins as possible before the pirate does. When the pirate tile pops up from the sack, you will have to pick a card from the Pirate Tax deck. Pick one of the pirate's choices strategically so that you give him the least treasure.

In competitive mode, each player needs to make sure he does not make it easy for other players to grab coins - mislead them by building roads away from the treasure that you cannot reach!

Bridges and Junctions

Buy these tiles from the Pirate Store to add branches and side paths to the existing roads. But think strategically - buying them makes sense only if you are going to get a reward higher than what you paid for them!

Who Wins?

The game is over whenever you are out of coins on the board or you are out of road tiles. In the competitive mode, the player with the highest value of coins wins! In the cooperative mode, you win if have more coins than the pirate.

The Idea

We got this idea for the game during winter break last year. We quickly created a prototype with paper and pencil and tried playing it. It was tough playing the game with paper tiles - the tiles would often move and it was difficult to keep them in place.

The First Prototype

Then, we made the first prototype with simple graphics and built it using the Game Crafter online site. We used this prototype to fine tune the game and the rules. We took this game to parties, forced everyone who visited our house to play with it and took valuable feedback. We were repeatedly told that the graphics needed to improve. Anika, the artist, started working on it very seriously using her iPad. She finally had the sketch for the game - it looked x100 better than our original prototype :)

The Production Game

We went back and forth on the color and the theme and finally settled on a dark green theme (reminding us of the dark Amazon jungle). When we got the copy of the production prototype, we could not have been happier! The game looks sleek, and all the tiles and coins are of the highest quality!

As some of you already know, we are founders of MathandCoding.org, a non-profit dedicated to teaching kids of all ages how to code in local libraries.

We are building this game mainly to support our efforts to expand MathAndCoding and reach out to kids outside of the Bay Area, teaching them coding and thinking skills. We plan to use the profits from this campaign and the sales of the board game to fund our trips to Mendocino and other counties outside of the SF Bay Area, where we will be teaching coding camps throughout the summer.

The statistics of crowdfunding are pretty unforgiving. Only one in twenty people who see this page will pledge. That means we need to reach out to hundreds of people to achieve our goal. Please share! The best way to do that is to post a link on Facebook/Twitter, or send an email with a link to a couple of friends you think might be interested. Thank you so much!

Fueled by our success with the codingFarmers board game, we designed a 'Coding is Good' Python card game for middle school children. This complements our online Python coding class. Python is a very popular programming language for beginners. It has gained momentum recently as a simple language for those who haven't coded before.

In this two-player game (ideal for kids in 5th grade and above), players challenge each other in their understanding of Python concepts. The game has three sets of cards. The Basic, the Intermediate, and the Advanced cards. At the beginning of the game, players divide each deck equally among themselves, The players challenge each other by picking cards strategically from their decks and asking the questions from the cards to their opponent. If you answer correctly, the card pile increases in size - but if you answer wrong, the whole stack goes to your opponent. After you run out of cards, whoever ends up with more cards wins!

This game cards also double as flash cards to reinforce the concepts learned from our online course.

This Python card game is a bonus reward for some tiers, so be sure to check it out!

We have already created several game prototypes and tried them out in after-school clubs and with friends. We've gone through two revisions for the treasure hunt game and four revisions for the Python card game.

We are ready to launch full production of the game. We decided to go with The Game Crafter (TGC) for bulk manufacturing of our game. This means that the game will likely be in your hands within three weeks of funding!

Your funds will help us launch our game on Amazon.

The campaign is fully funded now. But, we still have eight more days to go. We thought we would add a few stretch goals:

If we are able to raise $5500, we will add 24 more cards (to make it a 200 card deck) for our Coding is Good card game. In addition, we will also send out the PDF copies of our Coding is Good game to all the backers!!!

Risks and challenges

This project should not have any risks at all. A manufacturer (Game Crafter) based in the US will be making these games. So, you will see absolutely no delays due to international shipping, customs and other unforeseen obstacles associated with overseas production.

We have all the designs ready and uploaded on the Game Crafter website. As soon as we get the funding, we will do bulk order production. And you will have the games at your doorstep in less than three weeks!

You will get this game during summer vacation! These two games will be a valuable and fun addition to all the summer activities that you have already planned for your kids.

We have lots of experience with board game production due to the successful release of our last board game CodingFarmers.
