About this project
A fine example of the band's incendiary "live'" shows.
Vigilantes of Love ~ Live at the Axiom Arts Centre, Cheltenham England. recorded "live" to a 24-track mobile unit on the eve of Audible Sigh's release in the US. (Thank You, John Mark Johnson, for making this magnificent recording possible!)
Here's the entire 21-song album, digital version from the bandcamp site. Have a listen! ~ bill
There is but one reward on this baby, folks: Here's the back story to what critics hailed as one of the quintessential County-alt rock records of the 90s.
Hailed by critics here and in the UK, it was consistently ranked among the Best Americana records of the 90's (Just ask Paste Music Magazine); Produced by legend & national treasure, Buddy Miller, Audible Sigh was THE album that put Vigilantes of Love "on the map" as an authoritative alt-country band.
Note: This will be the only Vinyl rendering of this album to date.
We're pressing 200 copies;
It will be a beautifully rendered 180gram vinyl double album.
"Heavy, heavy duty!" ;-)
With stellar performances by the band (Jake Bradley, Kenny Hutson, Kevin Heuer) the album also features guest appearances by Nashville greats: Song chanteuse, Emmylou Harris, drummer Brady Blade, Buddy Miller & Julie Miller.
Vigilantes of Love made this phenomenal record in 1999. Audible Sigh was the culmination of 1000's of live shows, 10 previous albums...and lots of pluck. The band was simply amazing, with it's intense "live" shows; It was, as they say, dubbed one of the "hardest working bands in show business."
Kenny, Jake & Kevin delivered stunning & passionate performances every night. The stuff of legend. No lie.
They did the same in the studio while making Audible Sigh.
Me? As the writer/singer/guitarist I kept many journals during the mid-90's, writing songs incessantly.
We graduated: That "grandest of teachers," (the Road) was so much a part of our souls that it bore good fruit in 2 collections of some 40 songs. (16 of them showed up on Roof the Sky (1997), 5 on an EP called "Electromeo," (1999)
The other 16 songs? We took them into the Nashville studio of renowned songwriter, guitarist, producer, legend Buddy Miller.
In just 21 days Audible Sigh was the glistening result. Hailed by critics here and in the UK, it was consistently ranked among the Best Americana records of the 90's (Just ask Paste Music Magazine); The "buzz" has continued to this very day.
Folks: This will be the only Vinyl rendering of this album to date. We're pressing but 200 copies; This will be an 180gram vinyl double album.
"Heavy, heavy duty!" ;-)
As a bonus: We will try and include some of the bonus tracks from Electromeo, if recording space permits. (This is a pretty big deal since only 1000 copies of "Electromeo" were ever pressed.)
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges:
This will be an ambitious project.
But, the hard work has really already been done: Vigilantes of Love made a great record. It has stood the test of time. It would be a glory to see it's birth on vinyl.
The way in which this critically acclaimed Americana album was rendered, recorded, mixed & mastered have left many already wondering why it was never released in a vinyl version.
(Record company "politics" nixed the band's pleas to have the album produced in a vinyl version)
Issues that loom large on projects of this nature tend to be of two kinds:
1st: There is the working hand in hand with the replication companies to faithfully reproduce the sonic qualities of the album. 21 songs require a lot of space.
2nd: working with the album cover artists to re-create faithfully the imaging & feel of the original cover.
In the case of issue #1, i have long standing relationship with a major vinyl replication company in the US; the dialogue we've established has been quite good and I believe it will ensure great quality and a faithful reproduction of the sonic qualities of Audible Sigh.
On the topic of issue #2,: I am in contact with the album's original artists who are locating the files of the original art work. Even if we have to start from scratch, which I doubt we will have to do, we will be able to render the cover that graced the first album.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
