The Borderland Expansion
For those who have played the game, you know the fun comes in the variety of how the game will unfold with 100 unique cards (plus 15 other cards). The unusual card combinations, and diverse ways to score, make each experience feel fresh and the path to victory different each game. The Borderlands expansion provides 26 (22 in package + 4 bonus cards exclusive to KS BACKERS!) additional unique cards to bring even more variety to this favorite fantasy town building game.
Some new features include:
• Cards that bring back other cards from the discard pile (hello lost pairs!)
• Cards that can pair 2 times for double the pairing bonus!
• Challenges that might help you (and in some ways hurt you).
• Some mild "take that" cards to annoy neighboring towns.
• New ways to make money for your town (some rather risky).
• And much more!
What is Villagers and Villains?
(Critic Reviews from Tom Vasel & Chez Geeks)
As the mayor of a frontier town, you stand in the center, eyeing the roads for talent and trouble. Will you take on challenges or hire help, develop your town or command its heroes? Your strategies, risks, and fortune can transform your village into a thriving city or forgotten ruins.
Villagers and Villains is a card game with over 100 unique cards. The game is played over several rounds. Each round has 6 distinct Phases. During each Phase, all players (Mayors) have a chance to take specific actions. The Mayor who builds the most successful village wins.
Game play: Villagers & Villains is a town-building game played in turns of 6 phases. In the 1st phase each player recruits cards from a common pool for all players. Four classes of cards could appear in the pool: Challenges, Citizens, Buildings, and Heroes. Each card has different game play applications and different outcomes on the final score. In the 2nd phase each player has a chance to defend their town from Challenges. In the 3rd phase challenges loot towns left unprotected. In the 4th phase each town earns money. In the 5th phase money can be spent to expand a town by hiring Heroes and Citizens or creating Buildings. The final phase resets the board for a new round of phases and the starting player changes. The rounds continue until a town reaches a fixed size. At that time the game is scored.
Goal: In the end, the town with the highest score wins. Points are based on a variety of facets. Players learn to assess which facet(s) will score the most points as the game is played, and as circumstances dictate.
Features: The Villagers & Villains game contains a basic game for novice players, an advanced version for experienced gamers, and special 2-player game rules. In the advanced game, players gain access to the King’s Favor, special card powers, and pairing options for final scoring. In addition, the rules and instruction page offers several variations to the game play. While chance plays a part in the game—via die-rolls for certain elements—skill plays a large role in recruiting, deciding how and when to use card abilities, managing town resources, and selecting which options will earn the most points.

Risks and challenges
Overall, this project is low risk. In case of any unexpected delay with the printer, delivery, shipping or otherwise, we will notify backers and do EVERYTHING possible to accelerate the process. We believe that communications with all our backers provides both the information and clarity necessary for project success.
Since I am both the designer and artist, reliance on others is kept at a minimum—making delays far less likely. Each game is edited and tested by others to maintain strong game mechanics and a comprehensive set of rules. A high-quality game printing company creates and ships the finished product to us.
Once we receive the finished product, we use a high-quality international fulfillment house for delivery. They have over 30 years of experience and have been very professional with previous deliveries, with no complaints from us or our backers and game recipients.
Using KICKSTARTER for this project is helpful because we are facing a small financial hurdle to print our initial run. We already have 80% of the resources necessary to complete this project making this an even lower-risk for you.
In addition, this is not a new process to us. We have created 4 previous game products and 2 campaigns on KICKSTARTER. All have been successful. In our campaigns, we actually completed and delivered ahead of the estimated delivery time.
Thanks for your support!
