The six Skins to grace this Kickstarter were hard to narrow down from what I've made but those coming to the pages are:
The Bedlam is the adventure seeker, eager to be special and eager to belong. Charging ahead with wide-eyed curiosity about the dark world around them they can be as dangerous or as confusing as it is enlightening. Bedlams can tie the mundane and supernatural elements of the fiction together, without picking one out as the victim or the enemy. At least, not automatically.
When you purposefully lead another main character into a supernatural situation, they mark experience and you gain a string on them.
The Devil is a look at how teenagers gather what they need through social trades, be it direct deals or symbolic favors. They specialize in racking up Strings and has new incentives to spend them. Come ready to deal when you give into the Stygian urges.
Move: Gift Horse
When you tempt a character and they refuse, mark experience.
The Dragon is about being popular, knowing it, and using it. Monopolizing it, if you need to. Not entirely well-known or connected enough to rule a specific gang of workers, the Dragon still can make their attentions mean the world to those who can get it.
Move: Draconic Splendor
Until you are given a Condition that makes you unfashionable or unpopular main characters subtract 1 from all rolls to Harm you and side characters cannot Harm you through Reactions.
A take on insecure leadership and responsibility. A Leshy is a ruler, not necessarily wise or well-intentioned ruler, but a ruler none-the-less. The Leshy has inherited a natural kingdom under siege by the modern world, and so the Skin also deals with adaptation and change, be it fighting against it or fighting with it. The decision of whether or not to take this move speaks to their approach the encroaching world of man.Move: City Slicker
You can commune with man-made items and spirits such as computers, glass, television, and electricity. Your moves that rely on natural terrain now work in urban environments. _______________________________________________
Too smart for their own good and too smart for the well-being of pretty much anyone around them, the Prometheus is about being advanced dealing with the double-edged swords that come with it. They can see the world more clearly, but can't fully express their experiences. They can impress their teachers at the cost of alienating their peers. Schoolwork is less stressful, but also less engaging; boredom is an ever-looming menace. They can see through all the faults and human failings around them, but only through the callous lens of teenage impatience and egocentricism. They know just enough about the world around them to break it in spectacular ways.
Move: Before Your Time
When someone rejects your ideas out of hand, mark experience.
A sweet and genteel addition to the Monsterhearts family. Just kidding.
The Veela is all about dishing out harm and drama, while knocking down people who try and help. They are large and in charge, the kind of people who demand attention and put on one hell of a wild show once they have it.
Move: Trauma Bomb!
When you are in your Darkest Self you cannot gain any new Conditions.
What is Avery Alder's contribution to this Kickstarter?
Avery has given her permission for me to do this along with her blessing for the success of the project. Besides this Avery Alder has no association with the project.
Ferretheim Games consists of Sawyer Rankin and Sydney Marsing. For this project we have also contacted Matt Strickling and the artist Fabrissou to help us out.
Having started roleplaying in 1997 with Vampire: the Masquerade Revised edition, I have loved RPGs of many kinds since that fateful inception. I find RPGs widen my world creatively and bolsters my empathy as I put myself into shoes that are not my own. I was introduced to Monsterhearts in early 2013 and have never looked back. It introduced me to the Powered by the Apocalypse engine, a game system which taught me much about myself that I didn't know.
Sydney Marsing is a lifelong word-nerd, who decided to become an editor at age 9, graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from Northern Arizona University in 2013, and did so in 2015. Her first introduction to tabletop RPGs was teasing her little brother for taking a break from studying math textbooks to study equally thick D&D textbooks. She since become the bigger roleplayer, and has been justly counterteased ever since.
Hello, I’m Fabrissou and I live in Paris. I discovered rpgs a couple of years ago and was introduced to Monsterhearts a few months later. I like cats, facial hair, the Queen skin and croissants.

At this level, you will get to see the way all the Stretch Goal Skins are to be made and may even play one of them, even if they are locked. We will go over etiquette and game rules before game. $3,000 – Besides my eternal gratitude you will get myself and my editor down at Dragoncon 2018 to run a game for you and up to 4 friends, for two 3-hour sessions. This money will give us the amount needed to buy passes, tickets, and hotel stay while we are there. You will be known in Skin Deep as the Ruler of Ferretheim.
Goal - $2,500
$3,000 – Death & Taxes: New Ways to Skirt Death
New gameplay mechanics that can make a one-shot less lethal or to just hand out some long lasting modularity for longer termed campaigns. Death & Taxes brings in the concepts of not only losing strings or entering your Darkest Self but also by becoming Weird, Scarred, Traumatized or worse!
$3,500 – The Fomorian
It hurts to be ostracized, to be kept at arm's reach. Be it because of a physical look or a mental twist the Fomorian knows this more intimately than most, and how to use it to defend themselves.
Move: Malformed Morals
When you spend a String to enhance a roll to Shut Someone Down, add 2 instead of 1.
$4,000 – The Immortal
Having the wisdom of an old soul does not take away the naivete that will always be faced by a teenager sometime during their lives. Taken from the niche of eternal youth wasted on youth itself, the Immortal struggles to straddle beside humanity and not get too hurt in the process.
Move: Enthralled By Eternity
When you ignore someone's interest in you or push them away, mark experience and they gain a string on you.
$4,500 – The Siren
Talent and fame can be a double edged sword, especially for someone so young. Many dramatic failures have happened while in the spotlight, be it bright or dim. Yet these stories always have a basis in teenage movies and reality.
Move: Imma Let You Finish But...
When you Shut Someone Down they take -1 on all rolls against you until they Keep Their Cool.
$5,000 – Cedar Ridge and Nightshade Shores, Small Towns
Each of these places are special to the Ferretheim Games crew. Cedar Ridge is the first small town to ever grace a game I ran of Monsterhearts, ready to be tenderly turned into a small town struggling with progress and being good mixed with bitter strife and darkly comedic slip ups. Nightshade Shores is a tourist trap of epic proportions set in a coastal California locale. Full of class and race issues the fragile peace may be in the hands of a few teenagers, for better or worse.
$5,500 – The Bakeneko
Hipster supreme and niche candidate that lavishes itself in idiosyncratic eclecticism. In short - the kid that did what they wanted and collected way out of the realm items and just didn't care. Anime freaks, audiophiles, debate club dropouts, they can all be found under the umbrella of the Bakeneko.
Move: Cat and Mouse
When you roll a partial success to Lash Out Physically the MC cannot hand out more Harm than your Volatile stat.
$6,000 – The Tengu
There are those who just don't know when to quit, who keep pushing until the catharsis of violence is the only outlet left that will save face. In the primale hallways of the schoolyards the Tengu keeps tempers flared and hackles raised around them at all times.
Clear a Condition any time you tempt a character into violence.
$6,500 – The Ferret
Cute. Adorable. Perfect. Okay, we here at Ferretheim Games may have a particular joy with the Ferret Skin. It is the class clown, the party animal, that gal or guy who just has all the right stuff. Down for whatever, the Ferret keeps the authorities on edge while providing tools for havoc.
Move: Castle Couch Fort
When you are purposefully evading authority figures don't roll to Run Away, you just do it.
$7,500 – All Art Will Be in Color
$12,000 – The book will go into print for Canada and US delivery
$16,000 – The book will go to print for European delivery
Risks and challenges
This is the first time I will be producing a product and if we meet just funding goals, then I think we won't have any problems. However the stretch goals and tier offerings may change this up totally. We will need time for new art, editing, the additions of Skins and Small Towns, all that jazz. January is a pretty good conservative estimate now that I have the entire team together and I will be as transparent as possible with the entire time this project is on the table. If we go into print I'll have more on my plate but won't rest until the books are in your hands.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
