"Hello it's BEAN a long time..."
What is EvilHairDay?
My name is Brendan Hill, the founder and head Illustrator at EvilHairDay a design company dedicated to making people smile, delivering top notch art work on different items for the public who are tired of you just seeing the same old thing.
When I was little I always loved to draw, fortunately that has never changed and I draw as often as I can to hone my skills. I always remember that I wanted to be able to draw caricatures, but I seemed to lack the skills involved. Recently I discovered that I had a knack for drawing these little bean shaped caricatures (which they have been so loveably named) and so I set up this company now with my wife (running all the important parts in the background) so that I could spread my joy of illustration with the world!
At the moment at EvilHairDay, we make tailor made t shirts, posters, cards and caricatures.
I have attended a few conventions here in the UK, with bigger, very exciting ones set up for 2013. I want to bring a new product to these cons, something that shows my skill but also a long standing passion of mine - games.
But where is Kickstarter in all of this?
I want to make a book, but books cost money to print (as I am sure you are all aware) and they are not cheap. Being that it would take so long to raise the funds, I thought I would look to Kickstarter to find like minded people who would be kind enough to invest in me and see this awesome project come to fruition. I am trying to keep the caricatures under wraps as much as possible, so as to not ruin the surprise of what is to come. I digress, Kickstarter is invaluable to what I am doing, it allows to not only raise me the money I need but hopefully show me that my project is worthwhile and worth me even pursuing.
So what is it?
Basically in a nut shell it is an a5 perfect bound book with hopefully up to 100 caricatures of the most iconic and famous game characters throughout history. The caricatures are rich in detail, while being in my own style.
The book will be printed on recycled off white paper, with a thick consistency. (this is the real deal people) I am currently about half way through the book in terms of caricatures however still to complete is the rest of the designs plus the layout of the book and then sending it to print. My aim is to have it completed and shipped by April 2013.
Thank you so kindly, for watching the video, reading this and generally taking the time to drop by. If you choose to invest then let it be known that you are a fantastic person and your generosity knows no bounds. This book is my love letter to the games industry and all those people that made characters that we all know and love. Games are part of the reason I even chose to pursue the life of an artist and I am glad that I did. Now please tell your friends and help this book get made!
Risks and challenges
Well firstly, if I get funded that would be absolutely amazing, though I have confidence in myself unfortunately EvilHairDay is not my full time job, so naturally my other job can steal my time which makes it hard to balance all my drawing work on top of that. Plus some caricatures take longer than others to complete.
But I do draw as often as I can, and when I say that I have set my sights on this project, that is not meant lightly. I will give it my all until it is completed! I will keep regular updates to keep people informed and on track to publication victory!
