About this project
Suzettes' Gazette is a backyard journalism project covering the 3,100 residents of Newberry, FL. The newspaper is community sponsored and community content driven. Students from Newberry Elementary, Middle and High schools contribute stories. University of Florida journalism students get published and several comic strips have been born as a result of Suzette's Gazette including one about two squirrels who discuss environmental topics called "Going Nuts." It is also the only newspaper in town, and it helps local businesses get the word out with affordable sponsorship prices. Suzette is a graduate student at UF where went 25 years ago.
