About this project
Gus And Charlie Live In New York
A picture book needs pictures. And a picture book needs to be printed so that it's pages can be turned again and again, even with sticky fingers!
This project will raise the funds to pay for the illustrator and for the production costs to get the book to press.
Gus And Charlie Live In New York is a lighthearted, sweetly humorous story for children ages 4-8. Katie and her two best friends, Gus and Charlie, go everywhere together. The fact that Katie's best friends are two small dogs, simply make all that they do so much more fun. Explore New York through their eyes and you will find not only a remarkable friendship between the three of them, but also a magical and delightful city at your fingertips.
The book will be published through Sea Parrot Press, a small publishing house owned by Robert Lange, a gifted storyteller in his own right. To see Robert's latest book, "The Knowing Gene," go to Amazon.com. Gus And Charlie Live In New York will be the first children's title in Sea Parrot's catalogue. It's thrilling to be a part of this new publishing venture!
The book will be printed and distributed through Lightning Source, Ingram Publishing's Print on Demand Division, ensuring high quality and global availability.
US Ingram, Amazon.com, Baker and Taylor, Barnes and Noble, NASCORP, Expresso Book Machine UK Adilibris.com, Amazon.com.uk, Bertram's, Blackwell, Book Depository, are a partial listing of Lightning Source retail distributors.
For print on demand publishing, I am responsible for all aspects of the book's creation. Thankfully I have great editors, a wonderfully talented illustrator and a fantastic project management consultant. Teamwork is the way to go!
The story has been professionally edited for content by two smart, insightful women, and reviewed by a number of children's educators. "Adorable," "Charming," "This simply sings off the page," are just a few comments.
Jeffrey Duckworth is the illustrator whose artwork you see at the top of our campaign. Whimsical, light, and simply wonderful, his work can light up young imaginations, and bring Gus and Charlie's New York to life. You will find Jeffrey at duckofalltrades.com.
Of course we need to create, produce and distribute all of the rewards to our supporters. Coyote Graphic Design is standing by to make that happen. The team and I are excited about the limited edition prints of the artist sketches and full color illustrations, which are works of art. The postcards are mini-art, and none of these rewards will ever be made available to anyone but our supporters! And who wouldn't want to be drawn into a picture book?
So, we have a great story ready for illustrations and set to be published.
I need your generous support to make it happen!
If we exceed our goals, there is PR to be done. The project manager has some really great ideas, and even some venues for the animal lover in all of us. And with the project's good success, some books can be made available to Children's Hospitals and organizations, for youngsters who might need their spirits lifted. After that, well, Katie, Charlie and Gus have a few more adventures they would like to share.
Remember, we must make our goal, or the project won't succeed.
Katie, Charlie and Gus need you to help get their story into the hearts and hands of children everywhere!
Thank you for taking this adventure with us, and welcoming us into the Kickstarter community, Katherine.
Here is the sneak preview:
Katie, Charlie and Gus walk down to the pond.
They peek through the railings and gates on the dock,
at the ducks and the geese and the turtles on rocks.
Beyond the pond is a castle, with flags and stone fences and tall graceful arches.
Katie smiles a smile as she looks and she thinks.
“It’s quite full of elves,” she says with a wink.
“They wear butterfly bracelets and shimmering gowns, made from dewdrops and daisies and they have golden crown s.
