About this project
As seen on:
Meet the Spine Family
Utilizing state-of-the-art Titanium, we were able to create the thinnest, lightest, and most durable wallet, that becomes virtually invisible in your pocket. This is the standard of minimalism.
The Invisible Wallet
Spine is equivalent to the weight of 19 dollar bills. With its breakthrough strength-to-weight ratio, Spine becomes weightless in one’s pocket while providing the durability to open a bottle. At its most basic functionality, Spine is a wallet that compactly supports cash and credit cards. It's that simple.
Custom Engraved Designs
Spine comes in several beautiful color combinations. Through anodization, color is embedded into the very properties of the titanium wallet creating one-of-a-kind color varieties. Each of the 5 Spine colors can be complemented with a pattern design or a custom name engraving (limited to 20 characters).
*Custom engraving requirements: Must use english alphabet (no symbols), Must not use derogatory names or messages, must be under 20 characters.
Grade 5 Titanium
- Anti-allergic: Titanium is biocompatible (it is non-toxic and is not rejected by the body) and used in sports, fashion, and medicine. Its inertness makes it a good choice for those with metal-caused allergies.
- ID theft resistant
- Water resistant
Each Spine comes with a slick elastic band that allows cash and cards to be easily accessed with a simple push of the finger. Bands have been known to hold up to 15 cards, but it is not suggested for the minimalist lifestyle. Our bands are made to last; we sew each band meticulously in order to sustain throughout years of wear and tear.
Wherever you go with Spine, you will be ready to impress your friends, family, and "frenimies". Simply slide your cards down, and crack open the freshness.
Limited Edition: Damascus
Damascus is the result of hundreds of layers of steel forged together to produce a rare and beautiful texture. The extensive process is made of:
- 5160 (spring steel)
- 203E (low carbon high impact High nickel mild steel alloy)
- 15N20 (band saw blade material)
- 52100 (ball bearing steel)
- Nickel 200
Damascus starts out with 13 layers of the listed steels that are folded 5 times to produce a high contrast of 416 layers. It is then etched to reveal stunning one-of-a-kind textures.
*Due to limited availability, we are only offering (20) Damascus wallets.
We were able to produce the first round of Spine Wallets in a small quantity. Since then, we've perfected a process that can efficiently produce anywhere between 40 to 400,000 Spine wallets in a timely manner. This means that Spine can show up to your door in a matter of months.
*We plan to ship Spine to each backer by mid December of 2014.
Spine was created by a brother duo: Josh Barclay and Caleb Barclay. Josh is a talented machinist and Caleb is a designer of things. The brothers came together and talked about building a great product that utilized their combined talents in design and manufacturing. What came out of that talk was their first consumer product: Spine. They have a passion for creating innovative products that serve everyday uses. By supporting Josh and Caleb, you are supporting great design and brotherhood.
Story of Spine
One day I found my favorite pair of jeans with an imprint that my wallet made after years of back pocket wear and tear. I decided to become a front-pocket-wallet-man. When I started to explore different wallet designs, I could not find a wallet that was slim enough to fit comfortably in my front pocket, nor a wallet that had a slender form with a beautiful aesthetic.
I found that many designers were overthinking what needed to be simple. After many explorations, I talked to my brother and we decided that we could create something better. We started out by subtracting every unnecessary item in the traditional wallet. By doing this, we created a wallet that demanded its holders to only carry the bare essentials. After many iterations, we found the perfect size, weight, and color combination for a minimalist wallet.
We set out to create the world's thinnest, most beautiful wallet; we believe that we have accomplished that mission with Spine. We hope it you like it too - enjoy!

Risks and challenges
The only obstacle that we could face is in the anodization process (the process of adding a color to the titanium). If the anodization happens to have a major malfunction, the projected timeline will be slightly affected. We've accounted for these types of mistakes in our projected lead times and can confidently say that the delivery date of December 14th is more than reasonable. Please let us know if you have any questions about the manufacturing process; we love to talk about it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
