The Cairngorms in Winter will be an independently-produced 45 - 60 minute film, featuring some of Chris Townsend's favourite walks and sights in the UK's largest national park.
"I am excited at being part of this project as I really enjoy telling people how magnificent these mountains are and I’ve been impressed with Terry Abraham’s films of other areas, which really show them at their best. I also think camping out in the wilds is the best way to experience the Cairngorms so I’m looking forward to demonstrating how to do this in winter conditions."
"I’m sure that Terry and I can produce a superb expression of the Cairngorms in all their winter glory but to do so we need your support so please pledge to this project." Chris Townsend
"I honestly believe myself and Chris can produce an awe-inspiring short film of this very special area of the UK. We don't intend it to be your usual run-of-the-mill outdoors video. We want to engage with all ages and experiences so I'll be spending a great deal of my time capturing the landscape in all it's glory."
"I'm hoping to produce a video that not only captures the drama of the Cairngorms National Park but also takes the viewer on a journey with Chris as their guide. Chris' approachable and down to earth demeanour and vast experience of hiking in the great outdoors I believe will make for informative and rewarding entertainment."
"I'm looking forward to sharing with people how Chris goes about choosing his camps, which gear he takes and why, while showing the quieter and more thoughtful moments of his travels. I want to convey not only the beauty of the great outdoors but the therapeutic effect it can have on your soul and I believe we can all learn from Chris"
"I intend to film a minimum of three of Chris' favourite hikes in the Cairngorms, as well as the wider area." Terry Abraham
The Cairngorms is a magnificent mountain range of huge alpine-arctic plateaux rising above deep cliff-lined corries, high passes and remote lochs. Here is found the largest area of land over 800 metres in Britain and the largest remnants of the ancient Caledonian forest. Most of the area lies in the Cairngorms National Park, at 4528 km² over twice the size of the Lake District National Park in England and Scotland’s other National Park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. The only habitations lie round the edges of the mountain core. This is big country requiring long days and good outdoor skills.
The Cairngorms are Britain's most snowy region and snow can lie long and deep on the mountains. Winter here is harsh but also beautiful and spectacular.
We have set aside January, February and March 2013 to film this special video and anticipate it will be ready to view by the end of April 2013. We need three months because weather and ground conditions can be wildly unpredictable. It's worth noting that the video could well be completed before the above stated end date.
Either way, if successful do follow our blogs and other social media as we'll both be featuring content concerning the project including behind-the-scenes videos!
We're not looking for charity but an alternate sales venue for what we believe will make for a superb video featuring the Cairngorms National Park. That's why our rewards for any pledges you choose to make reflect exceptional market value. You're not making a donation but a 'pre-purchase' with extra gifts. All monies will go towards travel (this will involve numerous trips and days spent out in the mountains as you can imagine), licences for music, time out to film and edit the project and so on.
With your support we will produce an inspirational film that everyone will want to watch again and again.
People pledge a specific amount and receive an award. At the end of our 60 day Kickstarter campaign, if the combined total of all pledges made to the project meets our £5000 goal, then and only then are funds safely and securely withdrawn enabling us to begin work on the video.
If we don't meet our goal then no monies are withdrawn, no rewards are provided and no video will be produced.
If we exceed our £5000 goal, then the extra funds will be used to make the film even better! We could then finance trips to capture aerial scenes of the Cairngorms in winter, for example.
So! Please start pledging! All funds raised are used directly for this project.
Risks and challenges
Producing videos is a complicated technical exercise and more so when it comes to filming the great outdoors. The weather of course plays a huge factor in this and needless to say things can be tricky in the winter. That being said, Terry is very experienced when it comes to spending time out on the mountains capturing scenes on camera. "Tenacious" is his middle name. It's not unheard of for Terry to be cooped up in a tent for days on end waiting for that 'special moment'.
When it comes to all things backpacking Chris' experience is second to none. So between the two of them, they see no reason why they shouldn't successfully accomplish their goals and complete the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
