Frank Cho's exquisite line and masterful brushstrokes are explored to give the beginning artist, along with the most advanced professional, all the tools and knowledge to draw beautiful women. No area is overlooked as chapters cover demonstrations on how to draw the overall figure, then continue with the head, hair, neck, torso, back, arms, hands, pelvis and legs through clear, step-by-step procedures. Numerous samples from multiple angles are shared, including views from the back, side and three-quarter figure. Frank continues by exploring the foundation of form by showing major muscle groups and providing visual answers to an artist's toughest questions. A dedicated feature with dozens of faces and expressions provides an unparalleled reference gallery.
Drawing Beautiful Women is enhanced by Frank's wit and flair for entertainment, as he interjects humor throughout the book for a fun and playful experience.
Frank's pen-and-ink and brush styles, plus the ballpoint pen, are each represented. A chapter devoted to painting shows two complete works from start to finish. The process of the cover painting is revealed in detail, followed by a second radiant woman in oils. Examples of his work being digitally colored are also included.
This book will include nude artistic drawings of attractive women.

Announcing the Gallery Edition of Frank Cho's Drawing Beautiful Women!
We are pleased to announce the Gallery Edition of Frank Cho's Drawing Beautiful Women. This massive edition will be 12 inches wide by 17 inches tall. The Gallery Edition will feature a new oil painting of a reclining nude woman on the printed boards cover. (The cover sample shows the painting and rough design, both of which are in progress.)
This oversized version will meet the high standards of the discerning collector, plus benefit the student by showcasing the artwork at a large scale, many in its original size. This format will allow for a close and personal study of Cho's line and brush strokes. Plus it makes a nifty tray to serve various beverages of your choice.
There are three offerings for this book.
The Gallery Edition hardcover is 128 pages, 12x17 inches. At $150, you get the extra 16-page section which includes bonus artwork and an exclusive Frank Cho interview, plus an alternate designed cover featuring a new painting of a nude woman. This is only available from Flesk and Cho. This edition will not be available through the book trade.

Adding an entire new edition to our campaign adds a whole new risk factor for us since the printing for this new edition will be quite expensive. But, it's a dream edition for us, and one in which we hope will have your support.
We've added a $10 tier for a digital version of the 112-page trade edition book in PDF form. You will also be eligible to have free access to the online Frank Cho art demonstration video if we hit our stretch goal to make the film happen. This is an incredible deal and also an excellent option for our international friends. Please note that all other stretch goals and exclusives are only available to book pledges of $20 or more.
Reward Delivery Date
The book will be shipped in early October 2014. The first group of pages are being worked on now. Frank will need the winter and spring to complete the many new drawings. During this time, publisher John Fleskes will be working closely with Frank to design and put the book together. It will be our pleasure to provide monthly updates. We will have some sample book spreads to share very soon.
Free Kickstarter Exclusive Bonus for Book Pledges
Everyone who makes a book-purchase pledge ($20 or more) will receive a free Kickstarter exclusive 8x10 inch print featuring head shots from various angles. This will be an excellent shortcut guide.
We will be adding stretch goals during the duration of our campaign!
Stretch Goal #1 -- Unlocked!
We will add one gatefold to the trade and publisher's book editions. This will allow us to include one of Frank's horizontal pen-and-ink pieces at a larger size. The book page count will increase by four pages. The trade editions will become 116 pages instead of the originally planned 112 pages. The publisher edition will now be 132 pages instead of 128, plus the deluxe will be 134 instead of 130 pages. Thank you!
Stretch Goal #2 -- Unlocked!
We will add the second gatefold to the trade and publisher's book editions. The book page count will increase by another four pages. Stretch Goal #3 -- Unlocked!
We will add 4" French Flaps to the Drawing Beautiful Women trade paperback edition. Stretch Goal #4 -- Unlocked!
We will add a second free 8x10 print for all book pledges of $20 or more. This second print will feature the full body construction of a woman from the front, side and rear. Frank Cho's thoughts on Flesk Publications:
"Flesk Publications, in a word, is 'quality.' I've known John Fleskes of Flesk Publications for about 10 years and have noticed and respected his pursuit of perfection and integrity in everything he has produced. Although John Fleskes is a publisher, he is in many ways an artist in his own right. Like an old school artisan, he will handcraft every book he produces. John was on my short list of people that I wanted to work with for years. And this art instruction book project was a perfect fit."
John Fleskes's thoughts on Frank Cho:
"Besides Frank being an honest-to-goodness great guy and my looking forward to working with him, I consider him to be the rare artist who can be creative in a variety of forms at a superb level. He draws with carbon and ink using just about any tool that he can get ahold of, and also paints in all mediums. His mind oozes highly imaginative ideas that he has an ability to translate into a tangible form. Frank is also an accomplished writer, which is a skill that allows him to clearly communicate how he draws and paints in this book.
"I first met Frank just over a decade ago. We've talked over the years about the possibility of working together. When Frank brought up this book idea, I immediately got excited about it. I love seeing the process of an artist. I'm very passionate about this book and how it will document Frank properly in a high-quality art book format that will preserve his knowledge for generations to come."
Frank: "Kickstarter is the great equalizer for me. After years of working for giant faceless corporations, it's refreshing to have a direct personal communication with the fans and readers. Kickstarter is one of the purest forms of democracy in the publishing business. It's just the fans and the creators. There are no middle men to break the line. It's a simple case of people believing in and supporting the product. And John and I will do our very best to put out the best product possible with your help."
John: "I'd like to expand upon Frank's comments. Kickstarter and those who support us will allow us to take a book idea and constantly expand upon it so we have an opportunity to make our ideal book with all of the bonuses, premiums and extras that wouldn't be possible through traditional distribution. One of my favorite aspects is adding stretch goals that let us enhance the book as our funding grows. To me, we aren’t making a product, we are making a unique art book that we can be proud of and that we hope will be cherished by our supporters. And I agree with Frank that a large part of the enjoyment and motivation comes from the interaction with all of you along the way. The direct connection formed with our supporters is a welcome bonus to us.
"Personal projects such as this are simply not possible without the help of Kickstarter supporters. A book as involved as this one, where Frank will need months of studio time to focus properly on the writing and artwork, will mean that he cannot take on very much paid work to supplement his income during its creation. To this end, we are looking to the public for help to make this dream project, which Frank Cho hopes will give back to his fellow artists and admirers by sharing his process and will serve as an art collection in its own right."
About Frank Cho
Frank Cho was born in Seoul, South Korea, on December 2, 1971. At the age of six, he immigrated to the United States with his family. Cho never had any formal training in art but taught himself to write and draw by reading art books and comics.
At the University of Maryland, he created the award-winning comic strip "University 2" (University Squared), which ran in the campus newspaper, The Diamondback, from 1993 to 1995. Upon graduating with a bachelor's degree in nursing, he signed with Creators Syndicate Inc.
Cho launched the comic strip "Liberty Meadows" on March 31, 1997, distributed worldwide by Creators Syndicate. From day one, the strip was a critical success, hailed for its hilarious writing and superb art. Unfortunately, after years of censorship and editorial compromises,
Cho decided to leave Creators Syndicate. In an unprecedented move in comics history, he voluntarily discontinued the newspaper strip in favor of comic-book distribution only. In 2002, Cho moved the hugely successful Liberty Meadows comic to Image Comics.
Impressed by his comic's writing and art, Frank Cho was recruited by Axel Alonso, editor-in-chief at Marvel Entertainment. Cho has worked on many top-tiered books at Marvel, including Spider-Man, The Mighty Avengers, Hulk, X-Men, Shanna the She-Devil and Savage Wolverine.
In his spare time, Frank Cho works on video-game designs, movies and oil paintings for various art-gallery shows. He also works on his creator-owned projects, such as Guns & Dinos, Zombie King, Skyborne, and the upcoming World of Payne with famed novelist Tom Sniegoski.
Frank Cho has won many awards, including the prestigious Emmy Award, the National Cartoonist Society’s awards for Best Comic Book and Best Book Illustration, the Eagle Award, the Charles M. Schulz Award for Excellence in Cartooning, the Scripps-Howard Award for Best College Cartoonist, the College Media Association award for Cartooning, Spain’s International Haxtur Award for Best Artist and the Max & Moritz Prize, Germany’s highest award for an international comic strip. He also was nominated for the coveted Harvey and Eisner awards.
Frank Cho currently resides in Hanover, Maryland, with his girlfriend, Mara, and their dog, Lucy.

Risks and challenges
Why you should trust Flesk Publications? John answers:
"I pride myself on having an eleven year record of delivering over fifty books on time and of the highest quality. And I ran two previous Kickstarter campaigns, one with Brom and the other with Mark Schultz, both of which were delivered on time. Of course, things don't always go exactly as planned in the publishing world. Much of the time they do, but sometimes an unexpected problem or delay arises. In the rare case that this happens, simply put, I deal with it and find a way to get the job done. I am very open about any challenges and like to share in the process so people know what's going on. I don't like surprises, and don't feel anyone else should either. I respect the artist, and our supporters too much to let them down. The good thing is that I've published over fifty books and I know how to get them shipped and delivered, and I know how to manage a schedule and keep projects on track, and I will stay motivated and energized to get the books into your hands when I said I would. Bottom line, I would not have been around this long without an excellent track record."
John answers: I came to this difficult decision based on our experience of shipping over 700 international packages during our last two Kickstarter campaigns. We had too many books not arrive and the work involved (customs paperwork, extra packing for protection, chasing people down for shipping payment) was too great. It took weeks of work away from focusing on making new books. Plus, the extra fees and costs which we paid out of our pocket was excessive. As we added stretch goals making the package heavier and the Post Office raised the fees in the spring (which I expect them to do in 2014 too), we ended up paying on average $20 per package out of pocket. I will be making the books available on our website for international purchase later in 2014, and we are working on proper worldwide distribution so you can get the books overseas at a later date.
The books will be available direct from our website for international purchase late summer or early fall 2014. By then we will know the weights and package sizes. Our website is set up to calculate the exact shipping costs all over the world.
The trade editions will be available through Previews / Diamond Comic Distributors and through the book trade.
