Comfort and fear – just two of the many things that hold us back from chasing our dreams. For years, I wondered why I felt so restless. I was working hard and doing things I enjoyed, but I couldn't shake an internal aching. One day, I realized I was dreaming above safety nets. So, I quit my band of 8 years, my job as programing manager of a radio station, and moved to a city over 3,000 miles away where I had no job, no friends, and no fallback plan. Why? Because I felt inspired, and I wanted to inspire others. So in the promising uncertainty of January 2015, I embarked on my journey of traveling and playing shows from Florence, South Carolina to Seattle, Washington. With a Kia Rio packed full of basic necessities and a box of acoustic EPs, I arrived by the end of February. Thankfully, I had friends right outside of Seattle that allowed me to crash on their couch those first few nights.
I began writing new songs and playing every open mic the newspapers and Google told me about. Soon I was able to move into the city and make some amazing friends, a few that now play in my band and many that support by listening and coming to shows. This community has been so important and encouraging, and together we have been able to play sold-out shows in some of Seattle’s most notable venues. And we are just getting started!
Through all of these changes, I continued writing and exploring my creative voice as a solo artist. I met Jesse Proctor through a mutual friend, and we ended up collaborating on a project. This led to me approaching him with the idea of producing my record. The process of making this album began with picking 11 songs that really stood out of the 40 or so I had written. All of these songs were born in the same space (alone in a room with an acoustic guitar) but each has developed it’s own unique voice. And without giving too much away, I am so excited for you to hear what we have created!
Now that we are up to date, here is where YOU come into action. I want to keep this process personal and directly related to everyone involved. Playing live shows and releasing my music would be nearly impossible (and way less fun!) without you as a listener. This Kickstarter allows us to offer you a unique pre-sale experience where you can be personally invested in making this release possible... cause it ain't cheap.
We are now officially in the process of mixing and mastering, which means that once we have received your pledge and reached the Kickstarter goal you will be getting the record within a month! Through our page, we have set up some fun and exciting rewards that make each pledge amount special. Every person and every dollar counts! Remember, KICKSTARTER is an ALL or NOTHING platform. I sincerely hope that my story will inspire you to chase your own dreams, and that you will join me on this journey by preordering this album; after all, the best music is the kind you share with friends and family. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
Our main challenge with this record is production time. The recording is finished, and we are now mixing, mastering, creating artwork, pressing vinyl, and printing cds. Each of these steps is an art form in it's own right and cannot be rushed. Luckily, we have an amazing team of people that are already working to make the release date of March 20th possible. Digital items will be delivered on time; all physical items will be packaged and sent as soon as they are finished and approved. Our goal is to create the best record that we can- one that you will be proud of supporting many years down the road.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
