Just got my copy today. My wife is currently kicking my butt in our third game (14 to 2!).

One question: why do the locker cards have point generation/girl power/resolve values? I cannot see anything in the rules about being able to use them in that manner.

Got mine today, looks great and arrived in perfect shape. Except I had requested the Regular/logo box and got the KS special edition.

Aside from that little nit, wonderful packaging.

Locker cards seem a little too powerful. :( My wife got three of them and it helped her to clean us all out.

Also, having the sanity track at the bottom of the board isn't a great idea, because it's very easy to accidentally sweep the token off of the board while working with the cards. I'd suggest either moving it to the top of the track, or putting it elsewhere.

I played my first game of MSfG last night. It was only a two player game, but was a ton of fun! I can't wait to try it out with a full complement of four players.

is there any tracking info on our copies? I live in Maryland and thought I would've received it already. thanks in advance and I can't wait to play.

Leokesh Lewis (and others!) Prints were mailed separately. If you don't get it by Monday, ping me directly. I might not be able to get back to you until the following week as I will be at GAMA, but I got all the USPS confirmation slips on my desk, so we can find out if it made it there yet or not.

      !!!

Front office of my building just called -- my Miskatonic School just arrived! ("It's from... 'Fun to 11'?")

Can't wait to get home from work now! =D

    13. Luke Peterschmidt 12-time creator on March 9, 2012

Edward, send me a direct message and we'll see what we can do. We have half our bodies out the door for GAMA, so it might not be until the following week, but we'll do what we can to make it better.

      Luke,
Received my game yesterday. Unfortunately, the box was crushed in shipment. The contents are fine, but the box itself (Kickstarter version) is pretty mangled. Any chance of getting a replacement box? Don't need the whole game ... just the box.

In case my comment in update 4 was missed (since it was an older post): For the blank cards, how about making some of them with repeat art from the standard cards? I can't see drawing my own, but I'd love to customize name and stats of a "standard" character.

I also like that idea. Option 4 for me :) I like the original front box cover :)
      How about
Option 5: include the art in a players mat for the Shelves/School Stores?

    28. tyler dewaal on December 4, 2011

i like patrik's idea, and it this was available, i would choose this option. As it stands, I'm not sure I'd even choose the unique-to-kickstarter box for some of the same reasons.

    29. Ardent on December 4, 2011

Just to clarify, I would like to keep the poster art on the kickstarter boxes (names included on the inside as in option 3) but replace the original sales-ee back instead of the front cover.

    30. Ardent on December 4, 2011

As there was some support for my suggestion of a 4th option on the box cover, I figured I'd put it here as well for added visibility.

I really like the idea of a unique box for kickstarters, but I feel the proposed poster art will decrease the chances of introducing this game to my wife and relatives.

So as a 4th option on box cover: instead of swapping the front box cover for the poster art and backer names (on the inside), what about swapping the back cover, ie keeping the front box cover and putting the poster art on the back, and the names on the inside of the back? This would accomplish:
      - A unique kickstarter box, and including the names on the inside of the box
      - The crest at the front box cover that lox classy and familyfriendly at the same time
      - The ones kickstarting the project don't need the salee back cover
Since it looks like that of the available options for box cover, option 3 is the winner, you could arrange another poll about whether people prefer want to put the poster art (and names on the inside) on the front or back of the box.

You've done a great job with the game and the campaign, and I know another poll might be a lot to ask for in the last 30 hours of the project, but it might be worth considering.

    31. George on December 4, 2011

I just found out about this project and am very excited. The art and theme for this game is absolutely brilliant. I'm not even that into Lovecraft or Deckbuilders, I just love the idea of a finishing school where you are fighting the teachers. There's a lot of nice thematic touches too with the paddles, polo sticks, wormy apples, etc.

One question: what will the sanity marker look like? Nothing fancy is really needed, but a meeple shaped like a girl's head could be cool (perhaps in a paddle-brown color). Or maybe a cut counter of the girl's head artwork… or the school logo….

Oh, you might want to add to the front page all the stretch rewards you've added. I think I can tell by reading through all the updates but it's not crystal clear. It could help get some 11th hour backers!

Woohoo we made it to the box art goal, I'm doubling my pledge to get another box. One's to keep in shrink wrap :) maybe one day it'll be a collectors item :)

    33. tyler dewaal on December 3, 2011

If you do another stretch goal, make it for the ULRICH deal (I'm currently NOT on the Ulrich Deal, by the way), cause then we 600+ $50 backers might just up our ante and really bump this thing up- I'm just sayin' (well, the capitalist in me was just sayin')

First time backing something on Kickstarter for me, but I had to get in on this game. I do feel a little superfluous - you were WAAAAY past the goal by the time I found y'all. Whatcha gonna do with all the extra simoleons? *hopes for something non-Euclidean*

    38. Mike on December 2, 2011

tyler - it refers to the art from the print available at the first pledge level (or in the Ulrich deal). You can see it in update #6.

    39. tyler dewaal on December 2, 2011

I'm not sure I understand the newest stretch goal- it says that the front cover will be a "print" of Betsy's art. Can you please explain exactly what that means? Is it going to be a character drawing or something like that?

    45. Adorable Rocket on November 29, 2011

Thanks Luke, this gets me even more excited than I was before!
      .
I've avoided Ascension due to lots of reviews that claim there aren't many meaningful choices, however I am a big fan of RoboRally, because while your hand limits what you can program, there are many different possible paths to pursue to get to the next checkpoint.
      .
If MSfG delivers on this promise of multiple distinct valid strategies, that are going to be thwarted and modified depending on what my opponents throw at me, it's likely going to be right up my alley!
      .
I do like the thinking behind letting new players guys go for big buys by making most cards singularly useful. However I think you should be prepared to evangelize to the hardcore game optimizing community on BGG that there are indeed multiple different paths to victory. If players can simply max costs and be in the running, then there will be a perception (or as in my case an anxiety) that the game is largely mechanical.
      .
I'd stress perhaps that the game is as much about choosing a strategy in reaction as it is about discovering / optimizing one strategy over all others.

    46. Luke Peterschmidt 12-time creator on November 29, 2011

Hey Matias! Thanks for the question.
The decisions in this game are a lot like they are in any other limited choice game like Ascention or Roborally. You basically make the best decision you can based on your options at the time. There are a few key strategies you can employ, which are often keyed off of certain cards. For instance, there is a Locker card that deals 1 sanity damage to every other player when you defeat a Faculty. Defeating faculty requires high Girl Power, as opposed to unique special effects and Resolve. I usually try to buy things that allow me to remove faculty from my deck whenever I can. The ratio of Faculty to Students is super important. Rob tends to stress production over effect early in the game - so he goes for locker cards that produce nightmare and friendship points and when he buys students, he might lean towards ones that do very little except produce resources.

There are probably half a dozen reasonable strategies you can attempt to employ, but you rarely get to choose with 100% freedom as what is available is not consistent. So it's more about reacting to your availability and your enemies purchases (never buying low health Faculty for the player who deals damage by defeating faculty, etc...).

The nice thing for beginners is if they just buy the most expensive thing they can from turn to turn, they won't end up with a completely dysfunctional deck full of abilities that they never use - it'll just be a deck that isn't ideal (and they'll still be making decisions as to if they should focus on offense or defense). Most abilities in the game are atomic (function on their own), and get better in combination - as opposed to having abilities that ONLY work in combination.
