Big Dice/Hurricane Relief Update

Just when a campaign should be taking off toward the end, we’ve been noticing a very large number of cancellations which is offsetting any new backer momentum. This is totally unlike our previous 2 campaigns and the campaigns that our friends have run in the past. It’s pretty clear to us that this is due to folks hunkering down from the storm on the East Coast.

We love making games and we think even expensive games like Castle Dice are an affordable way for folks to have fun (especially when you compare it to things like going to the movies or having a nice meal out). That said, We don’t want anyone feeling any sort of pressure to open their wallet more than they feel comfortable with to help us reach a stretch goal at a time like this.

As such, we’re taking down the stretch goal and marking it “achieved.” We’ll cover any uncovered costs associated with the upgrade (we have some extra money from MSfG and Flame War - none of us have taken a dime from Fun to 11 to date). And while we’re happy with any support we get in these last 3 days, we’re not announcing any new stretch goals for this product. Instead we will be donating 10% of every dollar raised between now and the end of the campaign to hurricane relief. It just feels like the right thing to do now. We’ve always said that Fun to 11 isn’t in this for the money, so it’s time we put those words into practice.

Thanks for all of your support folks and to all of you on the wrecked coast, hang tough,

Luke, Jay, Kai, Dave, and Rob

Like many others, I was trying to convince myself that I'd be okay with just the dice and PnP version, but you have inspired me to do more so I'm onboard with the full version! Wish I could add your other games to support you even more, but sadly, those will have to wait.

I'd cancelled my pledge a while ago because money got tight, but with this update I really had to come back. You are awesome, and I can't wait to play this game!

    3. Richard Gray on November 2, 2012

If you're looking for a way to give more money and still get something in return, you could always pledge an extra $25 for Flame War or an extra $45 for Miskatonic School For Girls.

As may others have already stated, I was also on the fence about baking this project for just dice or the full game. After reading this last update, I was moved to back the full game. Keep up the good work and thank you for thinking of others in this time of devestation for many.

I was on the fence trying to decide whether to back this project or just try to live with the PnP version. Your amazingly awesome move of compassion has knocked me off of the fence to pledge for a full version of the game. You rock! God bless you and your efforts!! =D

Michael, (and any other backers considering upping a pledge)

Most folks upping their pledges aren't bumping up $60 for an extra copy of the game. Any amount you can chip in above your original pledge helps to offset the hit Fun to 11 took to give us backers the bigger dice and of course goes to Sandy relief. Additional rewards seem to be too late to realistically offer, even though I agree - many KS projects have a lot of reward tiers to entice a variety of backers.

That said, from one backer to another, thanks for helping to get this game made, and for even considering digging into the wallet for a little extra. CD backers ftw.

I'm at the $65 level, which is why I was looking for something between $65 and $125. I'm also pointing out that unlike some Kickstarters, there isn't much "extra" to up the pledges for. Yes, I understand I can simply pledge more, but that option doesn't seem to counter well against the unfortunate spate of withdrawals this project is suffering from. I realize it's only a few days left, but maybe some "add-on"s could help the project as a whole.

This is above and beyond...donating and eating cost of the upgrade, I upped pledge for sme rewrad so you guys don't have to eat cost of upgrade on your own and get some more fund to donate to those in need. I have backed several other KS projects from some great folks but you guys should get the "Kickie" for Project Sponsors of the Year!

    9. SuperG on November 1, 2012

Michael, at the $28 level you can get all the custom dice and the print and play version. Given the expense of making a good Print and Play, it's almost better to get a full copy, but it's an option if you are looking to get more.

Or, you can just add money and not get an extra reward too I suppose.

    10. Sutures on November 1, 2012

Upped, because it's an awesome idea.

    11. Michael Martin on November 1, 2012

You guys are awesome, and I'm very glad I'm supporting this game! $125 is a bit out of reach, but I wish you guys had some pledge levels or additional purchases between $65 and $125, I'd sure be interested! Something like extra dice or something? Could those be useful? Maybe a player expansion pack so more players can join in?

You guys are awesome. Pledge unchanged. Can't wait to have the game. You can add "compassion to 11" to your tagline too, though it's not as catchy. ;-)

      Agreed. Upped my pledge too.

    18. Josh Brekke on November 1, 2012

Wow, guys. This is the kind of gesture that defines the values of the company, and the hobbyist industry as a whole. I'm not entirely surprised by the donation effort having spent some time with you guys, but it is good to see that the passion that we all share for gaming is being extended to community efforts as well.

I've also nudged my pledge up a bit. Honor to you guys... I love things like this. Kickstarter has become a community and actions like this make it a community I'm proud to be a part of. I've donated in other places, but I wanted to contribute here too :)

    21. pat andrews on November 1, 2012

I've also upped my pledge by $10 as a show of support for this incredibly generous gesture by Fun to 11! You guys are amazing, and I can't wait for the game to arrive at my door!

    22. Steve on November 1, 2012

I was nothing short of amazed when I read this. This is a selfless act that in no way were you obligated to do and people (let alone companies) willing to do such a thing are increasingly rare. You proved to me that you are a bunch of classy, stand up people, who actually care. You have won me over as a dedicated customer for every project you decide to put out. Much respect for all of you!

    23. Daniel Vore on November 1, 2012

This is great! I've been looking for a good way to help out over there. I'll see if I have some room to up my pledge.

Quick Summary: Fun to 11 is awesome. Castle Dice is awesome. Get a sweet game & help others.

Upped my pledge - proud to be even a small part of this project.

    27. Jarrod Babel on November 1, 2012

That really is quite good of you all to do. I'm happy to support a team of people like you who have that kind of philosophy.

      That's a pretty stand-up move.
