Update: Fun to 11 is marking the first stretch goal (larger dice) "achieved" and instead of announcing any more stretch goals for the last 4 days, we will be donating 10% of all revenue raised over $34,000 to hurricane relief. Thanks for your support folks. Now, back to the cool game info...
Your kingly father (the king) has sent you and your siblings each off in a different direction to build a successful castle in the barbarian infested region at the edge of the empire. Whoever does the best job becomes the successor to the throne. Will it be you?
“Simply excellent and I look forward to playing this game again as soon as I can.” - FatherGeek.com
Castle Dice is the dice drafting, worker placement, big box game of castle building in a barbarian infested frontier land for 2-4 players. The game also features an engaging solitaire version for expanded playing options. To win, you'll have to plan well, make good tactical decisions, hire workers and out maneuver your opponents in gathering the correct resources to complete upgrades to your castle all while holding back barbarians raids.
Or to put another way... Castle Dice is a Euro-style game with a ton of custom dice, lots of tactical and strategic choices, a strong focus on drafting resources, and a fast paced turn sequence that allows an entire game to be played in about 45 minutes.
"Un juego muy ingenioso. Me quedé con ganas de echar otra partida!" - Jose M. Rey, Edge Entertainment Senior Editor (roughly translates to: A very clever game, I was eager to play again!")
We are super excited about this game, and want to make sure you know exactly what you'll be getting when you back this project. First off, the components in the video are our playtest pieces. The final dice will be molded like the ones in Quarriors (certainly not sticker-covered like the beat-up ones in the video). The tokens and mats will all be of high "Euro Game" standards. After putting literally thousands of hours of playtesting into this game and hauling our heavy playtest copies from convention to convention for feedback, we certainly aren't going to start cutting corners now!
Follow the links below to download the entire game in an easy to print out version for you to try if you want (or just the rules if you want more details). We'll also be posting more videos with play examples. And as always, if you have any questions, send them along and we'll get right back to you.
- Here are the Rules. These will give you an excellent idea of how Castle Dice plays. If you find any of it unclear, let us know and we'll update them before we go to press!
- FREE Print and Play PDF version. Cards and play mats are here. Since you won't have custom dice, we've included a chart so you can use your own d6. You'll need lots of dice, ideally of 5 different colors if you want it to be easy to keep track of, but a single color can work if you are very organized. You will also need a few tokens (pennies, glass beads, whatever).
Now that you know what you're getting (63 dice, 120 cards, 4 play mats, 1 turn tracker, lots of tokens, and rules), go ahead and click one of the funding options on the right and help make Castle Dice a reality!
"It's a great idea and not exactly like anything I've played before." - Jonathan Liu, GeekDad.com
We have been working on Castle Dice for almost 2 years. It started as a design challenge – make a competitive board game based on a non-competitive intellectual property. We challenge ourselves like this from time-to-time to keep our design chops up and see what we can learn. Since Rob here at Fun to 11 is a huge fan of Minecraft, we went and made a game based on Minecraft called…wait for it…DiceCraft. We didn’t have any plans of publishing that game, it was just a challenge that we gave ourselves. By the end of the process, we liked it so much that we approached the fine folks at Mojang to see if we could get the Minecraft license – they even let us display the game at MineCon in Las Vegas in 2011!
In the end, we didn’t get the license (not surprising due to the fact that Fun to 11 had yet to publish a single game by then!). Undeterred, and inspired by the positive feedback at MineCon and the nice words from Mojang (those guys are super nice BTW), we decided to make some changes to the game to make it more appropriate for a general theme and the game was reborn as Castle Dice. Now we are ready to go make this thing a reality! (with your help of course, this is Kickstarter after all…)
"I got to try this game in the Kickstarter room at Pax Prime. It was great to play a game with LOTS of dice where what you roll isn't as important as using what you rolled skillfully. I admire the drafting and dice choosing mechanic; I haven't seen it done this way before and it's quite clever. The game as a whole seems quite polished". - King Krag, BGG
We couldn’t make games like Castle Dice without you and Kickstarter. We are about as small as a small game company can be. The cashflow issues of making a game with as many high quality components as Castle Dice make it impossible for us to make without your help. We are very grateful for all our backers and we want to make sure that you know how special you are to us. So in addition to getting the awesome feeling of helping us produce this product…
- You’ll be the first to get the product in your area as Kickstarter copies will ship well before we ship to regular distributors.
- Every Backer who gets a copy of the game will have their name appear in the rule book as a proud sponsor of the game!
- All backers of Fun to 11 Kickstarter campaigns get an early warning email of upcoming Fun to 11 Kickstarter campaigns in case there are limited numbers of special options.
- Local backers will get at least one opportunity to stop by the Fun to 11 offices to play the game in a pre-production state (and if we’re traveling to a convention or other event, we’ll do our best to invite backers there to try out the game early as well!)
- This is in addition to any specific stretch goals that might be achieved through the campaign.
So go ahead and pick one of the funding options to the right, and be sure to Like us on Facebook and Google+ and Tweet and MySpace and Text and Call and Morse Code and paint your car with a big Castle Dice logo so that all your friends know about our game! AFTER you back it that is, don't forget that part...
"I had a chance to play-test Castle Dice at a local game night. I enjoy a game that has a nice balance of random vs. strategy. Each roll of the dice comes with more interesting choices." - Jordan Martin, BGG
We’re a group of friends (and supportive families!) who LOVE TO MAKE GAMES! Although we all have day jobs, we utilize the wonder of Kickstarter, all our free time, and our 60+ years of professional game industry experience to make the games we want to make.
If you have any questions for us about Castle Dice (or anything really), definitely contact us and we'll do our best to get right back to you.

Risks and challenges
This will be the largest product Fun to 11 has ever attempted (7+ lbs of expensive-to-ship gaming goodness). We are confident we can do it as the last two went smoothly and we have so much experience at other companies. That said, we gave ourselves an extra month to make sure any shipping issues can be resolved in time. Hopefully, we'll deliver early!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
