Now that you’ve met Don Gino - my alter ego - it's time for me to introduce myself but, before I do that, let me to introduce you to this dream of mine, the music video of Kriminal Tango.
It's a Huge Dream!
It's been a long dream of mine to have a great music video to relaunch my career, and when it came time to decide which song to chose for the first single with video, Kriminal Tango stood out as the winner.
I've always loved the tango, since my early years in Italy as a youngster learning the first steps with my mother. She really taught me well. Then, as luck would have it, while living and performing in Las Vegas, I came to know Pepe Motta, a fabulous Emmy award winning arranger from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a tango specialist. We became very good friends.
Last year, after deciding to produce Women, Whiskey and Wiseguys, I contacted Pepe again and asked him to arrange the song. He did a fabulous job. Once I heard the arrangement, it made me cry. It made me cry because there it was, the validation from my heart - the voice of God - that Kriminal Tango was a hit, but, most importantly, my career was about to start all over again...at 74!!
Then, as the Universe always does, through a series of coincidences - you know there are none - I came to meet Franco Campos-Lopez, a young Chilean/Argentinean filmmaker the New York Times has called “One of the young directors to keep an eye on.”
He fell in love with the idea and he is now responsible for bringing this artistic vision of mine to life. Let me introduce you to him.

"Tango. Tango is the sexiest art form in the whole world for me. Tango is about darkness. It's about sensuality and rhythm. The Tango is darkness. The Tango is passion, intrigue and, of course, a lot of dance.
My name is FRANCO. I’m a Chilean/Argentinian filmmaker. I have experience filming tango for music videos or as an art form.
Kriminal Tango, Gino’s new project, is a chance to convey every thing that tango has to offer in a music video; basically, you know. That’s why I’m really excited about this project and I look forward to your support."

I AM GINO FEDERICI. I AM AN ENTERTAINER. Thank you for visiting and taking the time to familiarize yourself with this project.
Although my International career has spanned 43+ years in show business, 23 in Las Vegas alone, it is now, at 74 years young, that I have the opportunity to make this dream of mine come true. All because of crowd funding, which was not available few years ago.
This project is a very important step in the rebirth of my professional career, after a seven year hiatus since leaving Las Vegas in 2007, at 67, after 23 years of singing up and down The Strip.
I thought that losing two wives to cancer was all I could endure, but, at 74, I am starting all over again. And you know, singing and performing is what I know best. What else could I do? After all, I’m an Italian boy, and you know, Italians can sing.

Anchored by an unshakeable faith and the help of my new wife, Boni, who kept my mind sane and made me believe in the future again, I started thinking “What can I do to separate myself from the rest, at 71?” And one day – kaboom! – the idea hit me like a rock. I was so excited I could hardly sleep! It's been a labor of love for over two years.
I remembered Fred Buscaglione, an iconic Italian jazz singer/composer/ actor of the 50s, from my home town of Turin, Italy, and the romantic wiseguy persona he created to interpret his songs. (Check him out here on YouTube. Here he's singing "Eri Piccola Cosi" which I translated as "A Cutesy Little Thing," one of the songs in the CD)
Ideas started flowing. My head was full of them. I dove into the project with all my heart - a labor of love two years in the making - and that’s when I created the character of Don Gino - my alter ego - to interpret the songs, just like Buscaglione created his persona that would take him to iconic status in no time flat. You can see Don Gino “live” in concert in a clip further down the page.
And I began researching songs, translating them and formulating my return to the stage by putting all the resources I had left into one basket I call: WOMEN, WHISKEY & WISEGUYS, the title of my next CD, of which Kriminal Tango is an integral part of.
Returning to the stage. Out of all that work came my new concert “From Italy With Love…Rat Pack Style” which I commissioned for a 4, 8, and 12 piece orchestra and performed last year together with Don Gino! It was a beginning. A risk that looks like it's going to pay off and make me fly again. I used all the resources I had and I am forever in debt to my pianist/arranger Bill Bastian who worked tirelessly to write all the scores. Thank you, Bill.
Now with the music video of Kriminal Tango and the new CD: Women, Whiskey and Wiseguys, it’s all full steam ahead…together with YOU!

The Dream Team
José Luis (Pepe) Motta of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a tango specialist and a multiple Emmy Award winning composer/arranger who has arranged many of my music in the past. Here is Pepe with his many lifetime awards. He arranged Kriminal Tango and put together the recording session. Gracias, Pepe!
Francisco (Franco) Campos-Lopez, whom you met before, is a Chilean/Argentinean Hollywood award winning film director/producer. You can read about him here. He’ll direct and film the music video of Kriminal Tango.
Glen Brown, studio engineer from East Lansing, MI., has
been dialed into almost every sector of the movie and music industry.
His accolades include two Emmy Awards and an Academy Award nomination for television and movie work. Fortune 500s are his clients. Eminem, Kid Rock, and Detroit's Ford Family have all retained him to design their recording studios.
He's put his stamp on hundreds of records for renowned musicians, including The Verve Pipe, Nazareth, Ted Nugent and Kenny Rogers. He’ll be in charge of my next CD, Women, Whiskey & Wiseguys.
And because several songs on this CD lend themselves to be morphed into graphic novels, I commissioned Rob Moran, 2013 Pulp Award Winning illustrator, to draw the first three pages of “A Cutesy Little Thing ( Eri Piccola Così )” so you can see where I want to go with this project. Rob is now illustrating a book for The Rolling Stones.
Romulo Fajardo Jr., the award winning colorist of KISS comic books, will be in charge of colorizing the graphic novels.
Isn't a CD with Graphic Novels a cool idea? Original, I'd say.
As you can see, the BIG DREAM doesn’t stop with the video of Kriminal Tango.This is just the beginning and would love to have you along all the way. But, before explaining that, let me tell you where your money will go.
As you know, Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing proposition. If we get funded we will proceed, if not, you will not be charged a penny.
The video of Kriminal Tango with the EP will cost approximately $25,000.00 and all funds must be subscribed in order to be funded. Kickstarter takes 5%, and Amazon takes another 3 to 5%. For every $10,000 raised, roughly $3,000 will go toward fulfilling the rewards. The rest goes to the costs of the project.
I put up some money already but there's still a long way to go. The attorneys, producers, musicians, studio time, publicists, graphic designers, the video’s Unit Production Manager/Line Producer, the cameras, royalties, manufacturing of products and hiring the bare minimum publicity team for radio and press, they all cost money.
I will use Kriminal Tango as the first single and video to promote the CD, which I will launch initially with an EP (Extended Play) of 4 songs, one video and one graphic novel.
With another $37,000 I can finish the full 10 song CD, complete the other four graphic novels, extend the publicity campaign and deliver WOMEN WHISKEY & WISEGUYS, the full 10 song CD, five graphic novels & one music video before the end of the year.
An additional $26,000 or more will allow me to film a mini movie of "A Cutesy Little Thing" (Eri Piccola Così) this summer. That would be spectacular! I know. I dream BIG!
A promotional tour, if funded, (another $46,000) will keep the momentum going. We are considering New York, Chicago, Detroit - our primary markets - and few other cities in the Midwest that would otherwise be prohibitive. The more we have to work with, the better the chances that this record will reach a wider audience than I have in the past. That's what you will be a part of: the making of a new Dream, the making of a new career, the making of a new life!
Of course, I look at the whole picture - as at don-gino.com - andthe 10 city North American Tour and Limited Edition Art book will push the whole budget to $553,350.00 from top to finish and keep us busy for a long time! But why not shoot for the stars? If Amanda Palmer went from asking $100,000.00 to approximately $1.2 million, why not me? Why not me? I can surely go from $25,000 to $500k! My ratio is smaller!! Ha, ha!

I'm extremely lucky. Some very talented people have liked this work enough to get involved. The more of their time, energy, and effort I can pay for, the farther this dream will go.
We can begin shipping the EP by June 2014. Women, Whiskey & Wiseguys, the full 10 song CD, 5 graphic novels and the mini movie of “A Cutesy Little Thing” can be ready by October/November.
Of course, the DVD of "Kriminal Tango" will be available by June.
Epilogue: For laugh, for life, for love!
I am deeply aware that, with your support, you are entrusting me with a big responsibility. I also believe I am entering the most productive and exciting period of my life and that this chance happens for a reason. The reason being that I have the duty to inspire others to follow their dreams, regardless of circumstances, and I will do whatever is in my power to make sure I fulfill that responsibility.
Two years ago I was depressed and jobless. Now I am beginning a new concert career. Last year I began with only three concerts but one of those culminated on November 16th with a performance at the Charlotte Performing Arts Center, in Charlotte, Michigan, with a 12 piece orchestra. It was a huge success and it has put me on the map. I WAS ABLE TO DO IT AGAINST ALL ODDS because of a Team of dedicated, talented individuals who believed in me and helped me along the way. Together we will see more glorious moments and look forward to sharing them with YOU!

Risks and challenges
As you know, success in any endeavor is being able to assess and take the necessary risks, for there is no success without them. My credentials as an artist and producer have allowed me to cooperate with top talent around the world in the 43+ years in this business and produce two full CDs, several singles, DVDs and concerts. I have called upon those contacts again and the Dream Team is ready to complete the project.
So, today, due to the cataclysmic financial meltdown of recent years, I find myself lacking no ambition, but lacking the finances to do it all, as in the past.
The risk I see is putting myself on the line and open myself to criticism. I’ve learned to deal with that, and my ambition is such that I have put together a project sure to satisfy most audiences. So, call me crazy, if you will, but I believe in its success! Time will tell. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
