We are two Dayton-based creators who greatly admire each other’s work and who have wanted to collaborate for some time. Artist Amy Kollar Anderson creates surreal narrative paintings inspired by natural forms, decorative arts, and her love of animals. Author Rob E. Boley writes horror fiction inspired by his love of horror and fantasy. We’re happy to say that we’ve found the perfect project for a fantastic team-up: a coloring book entitled THAT NAUGHTY PIPE: A SCARY TALE OF THE PIED PIPER AND GREMLINS.
Unlike other adult coloring books, the art in our book will bring to life a brand-new dark fantasy story. This tale takes place in the fantasy world from Rob’s SCARY TALES novels, which feature mash-ups of your favorite fairy tale characters and classic horror monsters. The story will be whimsically illustrated by Amy’s surreal aesthetics, as she marries realistic forms with decorative design elements that will be both fun and relaxing for you, the reader, to color.
So that the text will compliment the work, rather than clutter it, the story will be printed on the left-hand page of each spread, allowing Amy’s art to take up the entire right-hand page. The result will be seamless harmony between text and art.
We wanted to create a unique experience for readers by providing a wickedly fun narrative that you can actively help bring to life. With Rob writing and Amy illustrating, it’ll be up to you to use your coloring media of choice to bring the story into living color.
But your participation doesn’t have to end there . . . We’ve come up with a variety of fun perks that will allow you to literally put you, your children, or even your pets into this story!
The script for the coloring book is now complete, as are all storyboards and some preliminary drawings. THAT NAUGHTY PIPE Coloring Book will be a softcover 8.5”x11" book with a total of 28 pages printed on 80# uncoated paper. That's a heavyweight paper on which markers will not bleed-through. The book will feature at least 25 brand-new inked drawings of varying complexity and design for you to color however you see fit. The book and all associated materials will be printed locally here in Dayton, with the first printing of 1,000 books paid for by funds raised via this Kickstarter campaign.
About 40% of the funds raised will go toward the actual printing of the books, postcards, and promotional materials. The rest of the funding is designated for postage, shipping supplies, Kickstarter and card processing fees, and compensating the creators for their time.
Once the campaign is funded, Amy will finish all inked drawings by September 2016. Backers will receive their books and associated materials in October 2016, shipped via Priority Mail in plenty of time for the holiday season! As well, we're holding That Naughty Launch Party at Toxic Brewing here in Dayton on April 28th to celebrate the campaign launch.
THAT NAUGHTY PIPE is a clever mash-up of The Pied Piper of Hamlin and the cult classic, Gremlins. It takes place in the same medieval world as Rob’s SCARY TALES series.
In a remote village, a young deaf girl named Wilhelmina has befriended a mischief of rats. The village elders hire a mysterious Piper to exterminate the rats. But when the elders refuse to pay the Piper, his dark magic turns the villagers’ children into mischievous gremlins hell-bent on destroying the town. It’s up to Wilhelmina to make things right, but she has her own agenda . . .
“Clearly, Rob E. Boley is a writer to watch . . . and his Scary Tales Books should be required reading for lovers of fantasy and horror.“ —Lawrence C. Connolly, author of the Veins Cycle Books – Vein, Vipers, and Vortex
“His world is a fully realized landscape with a rich history, language, class system, and religion all its own, and while the story centers around Snow and the hellish army of zombies she creates in her wake, there is so much more to discover within the covers of these books.” —Waylon Jordon, iHorror.com

Amy has visually realized this story with a dazzling collection of striking visual images. Her work has been shown internationally, with numerous solo and group art exhibits in the states as well as several public art commissions. Coloring her images will help you to relax while also practicing your own artistic skills.
Fun fact: Amy used Rob’s daughter Annabella as the model for the story’s main character, Wilhelmina. And if you want to participate at one of our Naughty Insider* supporter levels, she can use your likeness for one of the other characters in the story, like the unlucky villager forced to ride the mill wheel of doom!

Risks and challenges
Our main challenge will be getting the books printed. Rob has a final script prepared, pending any additions from our special Naughty Insider perks. Amy has already finished all of the preliminary sketching and storyboarding, and the summer months should provide plenty of time for finalizing artwork. We’ve already secured quotes from the printer and have estimated our shipping expenses.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
