Creative and innovative Parklet will create a unique destination in Logan for Philadelphia to enjoy!
The time is now.
The Logan community is full of people and streets but lacks creative spaces for people to enjoy. Pedestrian traffic is an agent of positive change for both community and economic strength. Bringing a parklet to Logan will support positive interactions and create a public space for neighborhood enjoyment.
Let’s build together.
The Logan Parklet has already been selected as part of Philadelphia’s Mayor Office of Transportation Parklet Pilot Program. Your help in making this vision a reality will ensure more urban neighborhoods have opportunities for creative place-making. In a neighborhood with a lack of quality public space, this parklet could be a game changer.
Cut above the rest.
Why this project you ask? The Logan Parklet is unique in both location and concept. Parklets are commonly found on a strong commercial corridor, typically sited in front of a business like a restaurant of coffee shop. Our plan is different. We have proposed a site in front of our local Logan branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia. The site allows for collaboration with the library and the opportunity to expand the manner in which parklets are used. The Logan Parklet is flexible, designed to encourage and support activities including (but not limited to): reading, resting, conversing, eating, viewing, and performing. This will create many new opportunities in Logan.
Our talented PhilaNOMA design team has created a compelling vision for our parklet to be able to support many activities in three distinct areas. The first is more informal and has seating to accommodate people off all ages and sizes, perfect for public storytelling, lounging with friends, or enjoying a moment to people watch. The second area is an open area with a grate behind to act as a backdrop or staging area. It can support impromptu performances, an addition of a screen for projecting, extra space for visitors in wheelchairs who need more space to maneuver, and in its downtime, the floor is painted with chalkboard paint to spark creativity that can continue on the sidewalk. The third space features more formal seating, with round tables and booths for activities like eating your lunch, enjoying a cup of coffee with friends, meetings, or playing games like dominoes or chess with neighbors. The Logan Parklet is truly versatile and will compact many activities into an efficient space for community use.
We need YOU.
The City’s Parklet Program awarded us enough to get the party started. So far, we have begun the design phase with talented local architects. To bring their plan to fruition, we need inspired people who share our desire for change. To have the Logan Parklet open to the public this summer requires your generosity. With your pledge, we will cover the costs of materials and construction for a September opening. Every little bit helps, please give whatever you can!
