WE REACHED THE MINIMUM... NEW GOAL $3300! THIS WILL FUND THE LIGHTING AND STEEL FOR THE COUNTER. WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THE PROJECT WOULD BE COMPLETED... NOW IT GETS THE "BELLS AND WHISTLES."
VERY BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE SUPPORTED!
The PROJECT:
This design/build studio is based on a grant from Mitsubishi to explore potential design uses, strategies and assembly techniques that are specific to using Alpolic. Beginning with an exploratory design phase we developed multiple solutions that test the limits of the material to unfold unconventional, yet feasible opportunities offered by the unique composition and quality of Alpolic. We designed assembly prototypes that not only assumed a necessity for structure, material seaming and connections, capacity to make a larger form and enclosure, but also had to accommodate the conditions afforded by CNC fabrication.
We then conducted precedent studies to understand the successes and failures of prefabrication as an architectural solution by diving deep into branding and marketing strategies. With this research, we generated business plans and program possibilities that take the practicalities of budget, target audience and deployment into account.
Ultimately, the tectonic strategies and precedent research fed into the design of a complete global form solution of a unique geometry generated by distinct exterior and interior surfaces. The intricate interior exploits the folding and bending properties of Alpolic to create a dynamic and exotic space as a draw for a service based environment, particularity speaking to the popular appeal of coffee.
While the donation from Mitsubishi was extremely generous it does not cover the construction costs other than the Alpolic. These cost include but are not limited to; plywood, fasteners, steel, lights, and electrical equipment. This is where come in, the money that we raise through kickstarter is for the purpose of construction of our final design. Please help us see our hard work come to life!
As time is of the essences we are raising the funds to coincide with the building. As we build we will be posting images and video of the process to gather excitement around our project. As you may have noticed that the fundraising ends at 11:59p.m. on April 29. This is because April 30th is our Final Review.
