About

Hello everyone!

My husband and I have recently founded a company that started out selling removable wall decals for home and office use through a website we constructed.  We chose this product avenue because my husband had been in the printing manufacturing industry for 13 years and received multiple certifications including one for "Expert Level Lead Flexographic Operator" by a nationally accredited agency here in the United States. While stock decal designs that are fairly common are selling, we have had a lot of inquiries about custom designs.  The first few questions we received from consumers on custom decals and murals didn't have much of an impact in the way we envisioned our business going. In a span of seven days, we had as many inquiries about custom decals and murals as we had customers who purchased our stock decals.

What effect did this have on our vision for our startup?
After looking at decals and murals from multiple suppliers, we noticed they were all very similar and only differed by a little bit either in color or size.  We took this one step further and combined this dilemma with the fact that we were getting so many requests for custom decals.  This changed our entire business strategy and the vision we had for our company.  We still currently sell stock decals and murals to try and generate cash for our new vision and direction we want to take our startup, however, we want to create an avenue for aspiring photographers to transform their photography into removable wall murals.  We want to capture every corner of the globe that we can through people that take panoramic pictures of landscapes most of us will never see.

What is in it for the photographers who capture these landscapes?
All photography credit will go to the individual with hopes that it will help showcase their work.  Aside from their individual brand recognition, a portion of each sale of the mural that contains their photography will be given to them.  We plan on using social media platforms to allow people to "cast" their vote in deciding which landscapes get transformed into removable murals.  We chose this path because realistically we cannot transform every single submission into a mural.  By utilizing social media, we can reach a large base of people that will further help each individual artist get their name out into the world.

Can you outline your strategy to better illustrate how you plan to make this project a success? We already have multiple suppliers with the machinery capable of creating both custom decals and murals.  What we lack is the funds for the software to create the imaging files to send to them so that they can be printed and transformed into removable decals.  Our initial vision involves the following timeline of events:
1)  Purchase and become familiar with the editing software required to transform the photos into usable files by the manufacturer.
2)  Use social media advertising and artist venues to spread the word to garner the attention of amateur and professional photographers to take and submit their work in consideration for publication.
3)  Narrow down the submissions to a predetermined number with the help of the general public on social media.
4)  Transform the images into usable files and submit to the manufacturer for samples.
5)  Once samples have been proofed, production will be green-lighted and items shipped.  Shipping takes five days once packaged.
6)  Showcase the new items on social media with all the voter participants and put them on our website for sale with credit and a percentage of the sale going to the original photographer.

What do we plan on using the funds for?
We are currently in need of funds for editing software, website editing, advertising and ultimately, the manufacture of the chosen landscapes into murals.  While we do a lot of the website editing ourselves, some of the more technical aspects require a professional.  While the costs involved go beyond what we set our goal at, our goal of $3,500 will help give us that extra monetary push to pursue this new vision and help artists around the world while bringing the world into your homes and businesses.

Risks and challenges

The popularity of removable wall decals and murals has been steadily growing year over year. They are a cost effective way to transform a living space or place of business that requires less work and money than painting a traditional mural. The risk of this new venture is partially offset by our current decal and mural sales. We do not believe it is a matter of being able to pull it off or not. It simply boils down to funds versus time, which is why we are asking the community for their assistance in making our vision come true. We want to thank each and every one of you that took the time to read through our project. Even if you cannot help in a monetary form, spreading the word about this project is priceless.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support!
-Roxanne
