Thanks so much for taking the time to check out what this is all about! I've been doing this music thing for as long as I can remember, and I'm so excited to take the next step in my career - making artistic, influential, and just downright awesome music videos. These videos will be addressing some very important issues in today's society, from bullying to pediatric cancer and more. My team and I have spent countless hours making storyboards and perfecting the visions for the videos and let me tell you, they're going to be amazingly influential. So, hi! Let's get started.
My name is Sierra Lauren - I'm an 18-year-old, independent singer-songwriter from the great Evergreen State. The majority of you know this place as Washington, the Pacific NorthWest, Starbucks capital of the world, etc. It's pretty awesome. And wet.
Most of my time is spent writing music, going to classes at BYU and eating popcorn (seriously though it's a real problem, SEND HELP!!). I'm currently working towards a marketing degree at one of the most prestigious business schools in the nation, and I'm loving every second of it!
But this project is all about the music, so here's the story. My music career started at the age of 4 when I was initiated into the Suzuki Piano method. My love for music never wavered, and before I knew it I was writing my own songs! At the age of 16, I started getting a lot of positive feedback from my peers after performing original songs at numerous talent shows, fundraisers, and other events, SO I decided to start recording music out of my family’s basement studio. I ended up sending demos of my first two original songs, “Nightmares” and “There’s Still Love” to several studios in the Seattle area. Eric Lilavois, one of the head producers at the world-famous London Bridge Studios (Macklemore, OneRepublic, Pearl Jam), picked me up and encouraged me to write three more songs to release an EP. “True North” is the result of that effort. (Fun fact: I wear a compass necklace every day. Get it?)
So, why Kickstarter? There are a few reasons why I have chosen to turn to crowdfunding at this point in my career.
First of all, I'm an independent artist. In an ideal world, I would be signed to a major record label and they would gladly pay for these wonderful music videos with all the money in their deep pockets. But, there are just some aspects of the creative process that record labels take away from you that I'm not willing to give up quite yet. So I have decided to trust my fans and officially name them my own amazing record label. That's you! So thank you in advance, for being my record label and making this all possible. (Also, as I mentioned earlier, I'm a full-time student at BYU - when you add "independent artist" on top of college... you can see where the costs can add up quickly. Has anyone found that tree that grows money yet?)
Secondly, I have been completely overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback about my EP "True North", and it's so encouraging to see the love for my music. Currently, my single "Nightmares" is being played on radio stations all over the east coast and has even been named the NUMBER 1 New Indie Record for 4 weeks in a row on the New Music Weekly radio charts!! WHAT?! You can check out what music bloggers are saying about it below in the media section. (:
Lastly, I love to create. One of the reasons why I've fallen in love with songwriting is just the sheer joy of creation - I get to take a blank page, make something that didn't exist before, and share it for others to hear. I have been in a such a productive, creative state of mind throughout this year, and after seeing the amazing response from fans around the world, I’ve mustered up enough courage to ask for your help through this exceptional platform. It's inherently risky, but that's part of the fun. I'm leaving it up to you, and whether or not you believe this music can make a difference.
You may be thinking, "this isn't a normal music Kickstarter campaign. What exactly are you doing with these funds?"
I'm glad you asked.
I live by the mantra "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." You may be baffled by the fact that two music videos will cost $20,000 to make, but the reality of it is, a single professional music video can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $500,000 to produce. We're cutting costs as much as possible so we're actually on the low end, but again, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!
But still... why is it so much? We're working with a production team that has produced videos for none other than Ciara and Macklemore. Needless to say, we have the best of the best working on this project! Your donations will cover paying the amazing production team, wardrobe and makeup artists, the editing team, and any promotions associated with the videos.
I'll level with you guys - together, these videos are actually going to cost more than $20,000 to produce, edit, and promote. I'm setting that as my goal to get at least some of the costs covered. If we overfund this campaign, I will be able to record new music for you guys and create even more original content for the world to hear. If not, it's okay. I just want to get new content into your hands and address some really important issues in these videos.
These videos are important. They have important messages, and I know there are people out there that could use some hope. I just need a way to spread the messages - that's where Kickstarter comes in. Let's do this!

Risks and challenges
This project is directly associated with you and how much you believe in this music. The more support my team and I receive from backers, the more we'll be able to really invest in putting everything we can behind this project! Your contribution is an investment in my capacity to refine my art, create a stronger impact, and inspire others with a message of hope.
Sometimes there are delays that are beyond our control in the art & manufacturing process - so some physical packages might take a bit longer to ship than anticipated. We know surprises are no fun when it comes to getting something you paid for, so we will keep you updated throughout the entire process.
The obvious risk with any Kickstarter campaign is that the project doesn't get funded, the dream doesn't come to life, no rewards are sent out and everyone goes home sad. But that's part of the fun - the time constraint gets everyone excited and when we reach our goal at the end of the 30-day campaign, we'll all celebrate together.
With that said, let's put our goal into perspective - if 200 people gave $100 each toward the campaign, we'd hit the goal. If 400 people gave $50 each, we'd hit the goal. If we get 1,000 backers giving just $20, we'll hit our goal. My point is, WE CAN DO THIS! This project starts with your generosity. So thank you in advance. We can do amazing things - let's get started!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
