WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING!
"The Cap Gorilla is a must-have for every photographer!” Alex Schult, president, PhotographyTalk.com
"The Cap Gorilla Keeps Up with Your Lens Caps" The-Gadgeteer.com
Camera lens caps are easy to lose. When you do find a place for it, it’s an inconvenience – swaying from your camera and shifting your shot, uncomfortably bulging from your pants’ pocket, left on a table, forgotten in a jacket, or never to be seen again.
Introducing the newest and most versatile lens cap holder, the Cap Gorilla -- it holds on your lens cap and won't let go!
WHAT IS A CAP GORILLA?
A simple, sleek, strong, camera lens cap holder that works with any brand lens cap up to 100mm.
HOW DOES CAP GORILLA WORK?
Cap Gorilla attaches to your camera strap where it is close-at-hand. It uses a super strong, stretchy, and gripping silicone band to firmly hold your camera lens cap or other photo accessories right where you want it.
Cap Gorilla is:
- Easy to use
- Sleek and low-profile
- Hold up to use and abuse
Cap Gorilla has proven to be a simple solution that works effortlessly. It serves to eliminates the headache of misplacing or replacing a lost lens cap. Not that doing so will break the bank, but time lost is opportunity lost. Who wants to miss out on opportunity?
HOW TOUGH IT IS!
WHY CAP GORILLA DEPENDS ON YOU!
Know the feeling when you snap a photo at just the right moment. That is how designing and prototyping the Cap Gorilla has felt. To get to this point has taken over a year of steady work and hundreds of hours to go from a hand-drawn sketch to a final design.
Your funding will make it possible to:
- Produce injection molds. The Cap Gorilla and Cap Gorilla PRO will be made from high strength thermoplastics. The cost of producing the molds is $3,400.00
- Manufacture in bulk. Unit prices are much cheaper the larger the order. To order just one unit is just under $100.00 each. To order 1,000's of units dramatically lowers the price.
- Custom order the silicone elastic bands. The Cap Gorilla uses a special silicone rubber band. You can't buy 10 of these at the local superstore. The minimum order is 500 pieces and requires a custom mold.
With your support Cap Gorilla will be more than just a concept and a prototype -- it will become a reality for you and photographers everywhere!
READY. SET. GO!
We are ready to launch into action and start mass producing Cap Gorillas with your funding help. We hope the idea sparks your interest and invite you to support the project.
Risks and challenges
Bringing a new product to market is a complicated task from drafting and prototyping to intellectual property and trademarks.
To complete the project the next steps are to order raw materials, machining the injection molds, define the final specifications for the silicone bands and fine tuning the packaging. As simple a product as it is these many small details related to sourcing and manufacturing create challenges successfully manufacturing the product. My background leading large complex projects provides the experience necessary to track these elements and stay on top of items that may create roadblocks to delivering the product on schedule.
The toughest challenge is the injection mold design and machining the injection molds to the high quality we expect to provide you. The product is small and simple but simple does not mean easy. It will take several weeks to machine the molds and apply the texture to the mold which will result in the touch and feel experienced by the user.
With injection molding there are numerous variables such as pressure, temperature, and time. The greatest risk we face are getting the injection molding settings right so that each product is consistent. To help make sure things go as smooth as possible I am working with an experienced tool and die maker that brings years of expertise. We are using older equipment and there is always the risk of machine breakdown that could be costly and time consuming.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
