About this project
Arm yourself for battle!
Aventuria is a dangerous place. Lurking behind every corner may be treacherous monsters, exciting adventures, or an ill-humored comrade who challenges you to a duel. Gather your weapons, armor, and magic spells! Acquire unique skills and surprise your opponent with unexpected tricks!
But you must strategize as well - will you gather your strength so you can play a Shining Blade later? Or will you keep attacking with your dagger and try to disarm your opponent?
Aventuria Adventure Card Game is a fast-paced card game for 1-4 players, ages 14+, where each player takes the role of a hero from Aventuria. Choose from Arbosh the fierce dwarven smith, Layariel the fleet-footed elven scout, Carolan the cunning half-elven rogue, or Mirhiban the mysterious Tulamydian mage.
In Duel Mode, heroes fight against each other, while in the cooperative Adventure Mode, heroes join together as a party and go on exciting adventures. Whether battling against each other or standing united against a terrifying foe, players draw action cards every round which constantly improve their abilities. But beware, for each round brings new challenges, and you must always watch for surprise attacks from your enemies!
Social Media Squeeze Goals
As part of our build up to full funding, we have set three milestones to reward fans who are sharing our posts on social media with an opportunity to select stretch goals to be unlocked early. Details about this contest are in our second update. All squeeze and stretch goals are Kickstarter exclusive.
Our first squeeze goal winner was selected at 200 backers:
This is a pack of 7 new Adventure cards (2 Time Scale cards covering all four difficulties, 3 Curses, 1 Hero Action card, and 1 Leader card) PLUS a PDF of the text and rules for this one-chapter adventure.
Our second goal was selected at 250 backers:
This goal provides a poster of the box art for the base set for all backers receiving physical rewards. It also unlocks the ability for all backers AND non-backers to purchase a t-shirt through the Pledge Manager store following the campaign. This shirt will be designed to appeal to fans of both Aventuria and The Dark Eye RPG itself.
This goal unlocks a custom D6 for all backers receiving physical rewards. This custom D6 will have the fireball from Mirhiban's Ignisphaero spell in place of the 6. The die is currently in production, but you can see the design here.
This goal unlocks Henchman Pack #1 for all backers receiving physical and digital rewards. This Henchman Pack consists of 4 cards total, 2 each of the Barn Cat and the Murder of Crows.
This goal unlocks a custom D6 for all backers receiving physical rewards. This custom D6 will have Arbosh's Ox-Herd flail (not Orc-Nose - that's an axe) in place of the 6. The die is currently in production, but you can see the design here.
This goal unlocks a custom D6 for all backers receiving physical rewards. This custom D6 will have Layariel's bow in place of the 6. The die is currently in production, but you can see the design here.
Winner, RPC Fantasy - Best Board Game, 2016
The Hero Decks
The Aventuria Adventure Card Game includes 4 unique hero decks. Each hero deck includes one hero card and 30 action cards designed for use both in dueling and cooperative adventures.
The Adventure Decks
For cooperative play, the game includes 126 Adventure cards, including leaders, henchmen, events, rewards, and more. These cards enable players to explore 4 different scripted adventure chapters and endless random encounters.
The game box comes packaged with 8 dice: 4 twenty-sided and 4 six-sided. It includes 4 Life Point wheels, 9 Fate Points, and more than 70 special markers.
[Note - This image is from the original German base set. Punch sheets from the English edition will use the higher-quality format of the expansions as seen below.]
Forest of No Return adds Hilbert, Blessed One of Peraine, whose liturgical chants act as sustained boosts to himself and his companions. This expansion also adds numerous counters and 88 more cards for use in its 5 new adventure chapters, including 22 new henchmen and 13 new reward and event cards.
Ship of Lost Souls adds Tjalva Garheltdottir, the giant Thorwalian sailor who is a relentless close combatant. This expansion also adds numerous counters and 88 more cards for use in its 4 new adventure chapters, including 26 new henchman, 6 new reward cards, and the cursed treasures of Rietholtz.
Here's an unboxing video of the German version of Forest of No Return so you can see the improved components up close:
Regardless of the mode you are playing, you will power up your hero with equipment, skills, and spells, and then use your abilities to attack your foes. On your turn, you may play up to two cards as endurance cards, which are then used to pay for the tools you will need for your adventure. Since you can (almost) never get any cards back into your hand, much of the strategy involves selecting the right cards to keep and the right cards to add to your endurance pool.
In Aventuria, nothing is ever certain. Many of your attacks and spells require skill rolls, and your foe may still have the chance to dodge or use armor to reduce the damage you do. But Phex, god of luck, is always watching. When fortune is against you, Fate Points can help turn the tide.
Here's Markus at Gen Con 2016 giving a short introduction to the mechanics:

We are keeping the pledge levels for this Kickstarter campaign very simple. We just want an easy way for you to get involved and help us produce a great game.
Henchman - $10
This funding level is for those who enjoy looking at all the amazing art and want more of an inside look at what we’re doing with the game. It’s also great for people who own the German edition and just want to have the English rules and card texts handy. The Henchman level receives access to all digital previews and copies of the PDF files for all the cards and rules, including the expansions and any promo cards unlocked through stretch goals.
Hero - $44
This is the basic game pledge level. You get one copy of the Aventuria Card Game, plus one copy of every stretch goal unlocked. You also receive the same digital access available to the Henchman level above.
Leader - $99
This is the “everything” level for individual supporters. You get one copy of the Aventuria Adventure Card Game, one copy of Forest of No Return, one copy of Ship of Lost Souls, and one copy of every stretch goal unlocked. You also receive the same digital access available to the Henchman level above.
Retail - $199
ONLY AVAILABLE TO CONFIRMED RETAILERS. You get 4 copies of the Aventuria Adventure Card Game, 2 copies of Forest of No Return, 2 Copies of Ship of Lost Souls, and 4 copies of every stretch goal unlocked, all at a special retailer price. (Backers unable to confirm retail status will receive two copies of each item as if they had backed at the Leader level twice.) You also receive the same digital access available to the Henchman level above.
Legend - $500
Four lucky backers will get to help design custom art that will be used in the game's future big-box release, Inn of the Black Boar. The backer will also receive a signed, poster-sized art print of the finished card. In addition, backers at this level will receive everything in the Leader pledge level.
Both expansions and most unlocked stretch goals will be available as individual add-ons through Pledge Manager once the campaign completes. If you know you only want one of the expansions, you'll need to wait until then to add it on. We are trying to keep the pledging as simple as possible during the Kickstarter campaign itself.
There may also be some special add-ons that unlock when we reach certain stretch goals. Our first such add-on (the t-shirt) has been unlocked already through our social media squeeze goals!
If we pass our initial funding goal, we will start unlocking stretch goals that include accessories and promotional items to enhance your Aventuria Adventure Card Game play experience. We would love to unlock as many as possible!
Below are just the first few stretch goals. We have many more planned after these are unlocked! All squeeze and stretch goals are Kickstarter exclusive.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive 2 Paper Playmats to organize their play area. Future goals may increase this number.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive a copy of Stranglehold. This is an Adventure card that can be placed into any deck using the Deck Customization rules. Stranglehold is a very powerful card that lets you slow down your opponent's ability to play Endurance cards, the primary resource of the game.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive a copy of Inaniel Whistledreamer. This is an alternate art version of the Elf Scout that can be swapped in for Layariel and played with the same deck.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive a copy of Brass Knuckles. This is a Reward Card that can be drawn and added to a hero's deck upon successful completion of an Adventure Mode chapter.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive a copy of Improvised Weapon. This is an Adventure card that can be placed into any deck using the Deck Customization rules. Improvised Weapon is one of the few attacks in the game that does not cost anything to use, so it is very handy to have around.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive a copy of Hukla, daughter of Hogna. This is an alternate art version of the Dwarf Blacksmith that can be swapped in for Arbosh and played with the same deck.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive a copy of Drunken Revelry. This is an Adventure card that can be placed into any deck using the Deck Customization rules. Drunken Revelry is a free card that allows you to draw cards when your opponents gain resources in certain ways.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive a copy of Mimicry. This is a Reward Card that can be drawn and added to a hero's deck upon successful completion of an Adventure Mode chapter.
Unlocked! This goal provides a poster of the box art for the Forest of No Return for all backers receiving physical rewards. It also unlocks the ability for all backers AND non-backers to purchase a pack of specialty dice through Pledge Manager following the campaign. This dice pack will include 4 D20s with the close combat, ranged combat, magic, and dodge symbols, plus a D6 with the Aventuria A.
Unlocked! Each backer at the Hero level and up will receive a copy of Lockpicking. This is an Adventure card that can be placed into any deck using the Deck Customization rules. Lockpicking is a card that allows you to look at an opponent's endurance card and play it as if it were your own.
Unlocked! This goal unlocks a custom D6 for all backers receiving physical rewards. This custom D6 will have Carolan's dirk in place of the 6. The die is currently in production, but you can see the design here.
More stretch goals on their way as they are unlocked...
Pledge levels on this Kickstarter campaign do not include shipping. All shipping costs will be resolved through Pledge Manager following the successful completion of the Kickstarter. The simple reason for this is that it gives us time to try to work out the best shipping options for all destinations. It also allows us to fund the Kickstarter more realistically. Shipping for board games is expensive, so including it during the campaign can give creators a false picture of funding levels depending on where backers are located.
Our current estimates for various regions are as follows:
EU and USA - About $10 to $15 depending on specific location
Non-EU Europe - About $17
Canada, Eastern Mediterranean, and Eastern Europe - About $30
Middle East, Asia, Pacific Rim - About $40
These estimated prices are for the Base Set and all accompanying stretch goals. Expansions and any larger add-ons will raise costs accordingly.
We will continue to update this section with information about shipping partnerships and costs as it becomes available.
We are also planning to provide a way for backers to receive the German edition of the game (and possibly others!) instead of the English edition through Pledge Manager surveys at the end of the Kickstarter campaign. We are still working out the details of this, so keep watching here and on social media for the full announcement!
Risks and challenges
Board games are very involved in terms of manufacture. We have already released the German version of this game, so we have most of that supply chain already running. There is always the possibility that something may happen in production to delay fulfillment. However, we are building in appropriate leeway to keep any unforeseen delays as minimal as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
