About this project

Living in Amsterdam means that we ride our bikes everywhere; rain, hail or shine!! We wanted to be dry and stylish when cycling in the rain and have discovered that lots of other cyclists want that too.

So for commuter cyclists we’ve designed the OneSuitWonder range. The all-in-one rain suit and rain trousers really keep you dry from head to toe. We want to produce our rain suits ethically, and at all stages have sought out small businesses as close to home as possible. Now we’re ready to go into production in partnership with a sewing school for young women in western Ghana and a family-run business in Poland. Help us to get started!

The OneSuitWonder rainwear range for commuter cyclists

We have designed 3 different styles of rainwear to suit different people.

OneSuitWonder Classic all-in-one rain suit with a tailored fit, built in waistband and full foot protection.

OneSuitWonder Unisex all-in-one rain suit with choice of belt position and full foot protection.

OneSuitWonder rain trousers with full foot protection and side pockets.

What is the OneSuitWonder all-in-one rain suit?

With current rainwear for cyclists there’s always a ‘but’ attached – it looks good but it’s only a jacket, it keeps you dry but makes you sweat, it’s cheap but looks awful. And so on…….With the OneSuitWonder there are no more buts!

An all-in-one rain suit that keeps you completely dry, is made from high quality breathable and waterproof materials, comes in a range of colours and sizes and looks good too! What makes the OneSuitWonder all-in-one rain suit different from other rainwear is full coverage from head to toe, a hood that actually turns with your head, and full foot protection with non-slip grip underneath.

We have been wearing our OneSuitWonder prototypes for over a year now and it feels so good to ride knowing that we are staying dry and looking smart! We no longer hesitate to ride in the rain. In 30 seconds the OneSuitWonder is on and we are on the way to our destination!

The OneSuitWonder features a pocket in the belt and a pocket on the arm.

Colours

We wanted to make our rainwear fashionable, stylish and available in different colour combinations to feel better while riding in the rain! Eventually we would like to offer a larger variety of colour combinations. For our first production run we can offer the following.

The OneSuitWonder Classic and Unisex is available in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. See the sizing chart in the FAQs.

What are the OneSuitWonder rain trousers?

The OneSuitWonder product range also includes rain trousers with the foot covering. These are designed for cyclists who already have a cycling jacket but are looking for trousers made from good quality material that keep your feet dry too. What makes the OneSuitWonder rain trousers different from other rain trousers is that they provide full protection for your feet with non-slip grip underneath.

We decided to stay with plain colours for the trousers so that people can combine them with their own jackets. We have chosen Navy and Black for the first production run of the rain trousers.

The OneSuitWonder rain trousers are available in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. See the sizing chart in the FAQs.

Carry bags

Each OneSuitWonder product comes with a waterproof carry bag. These are available in the same colour as your rain suit or trousers.

The carry bags are also available for separate purchase.

Help us to make our idea a reality.

In order to produce the OneSuitWonder ethically we need your pledge.

What will your pledge go towards?

  • Purchasing our first bulk order of material.
  • Production costs for our first production run in Poland and Ghana.
  • Setting up our partnership with a sewing school and training young women in Ghana.
  • Providing employment for young women in Ghana.
  • Providing employment for women working in a small family-run business in Poland.

Who are the women behind the OneSuitWonder?

Kerry Finlayson and Carolyn Muntz are friends and sisters-in-law and together are the founders of OneSuitWonder.

One day after a long and wet ride home from work Carolyn asked Kerry……..Why isn’t there an all-in-one rain suit? With that question in mind, and after too many years of getting wet on the bike and looking bad into the bargain, the two of them came up with the idea for the OneSuitWonder.

With our project management, marketing and business backgrounds we know that we have the experience to make the dream of the OneSuitWonder a reality.

Ethical Production

Ghana

In line with our vision of being a socially responsible commercial enterprise, we are currently setting up a partnership with Western Girls’ Training Centre (WGTC) in western Ghana. The WGTC was established to empower young women aged between 14 and 18 years by giving them education and training in manufacturing textiles, sewing work clothing and batik making.

We read a feature on WGTC in the newspaper. They were looking for businesses interested in setting up partnerships to provide the young women with on-going employment. In order for this partnership to commence we need to buy industrial sewing machines and work benches, and to travel to Ghana to provide training for the OneSuitWonder product range. Our partnership will provide the WGTC with contracted work, and enable the young women to learn new sewing skills, follow processes for production, develop business skills and to train and mentor other students.

The young women at the Western Girls' Training Centre will manufacture the rain trousers and carry bags and use the remnant material to make waterproof covers for smart phones, tablets and mp3 players. Our long term goal is to train the young women in Ghana to manufacture the all-in-one rain suit.

Your pledge will go towards the establishment of this partnership and lead to the long term employment of these young women.

Poland

Our initial manufacturing run of the OneSuitWonder all-in-one rain suit will be carried out in Poland. Our production company in Poland is a small family owned business that has been operating for 50 years. It currently employs 100 women who sew cotton work shirts and embroidery.

Your pledge will help us to be able to place our first production order of 50 rain suits.

What have we done so far?

Over the past year, we have been busy developing our final prototypes. We have tested different types of waterproof materials, changed the hood numerous times, tried different sizings for the belt and foot covering and designed the rain trousers. We have worked with 3 different local tailors to help us with design advice and ways to decrease production time, while keeping the features of the OneSuitWonder. We consulted with many of our friends of all different shapes and sizes and preference for rainwear when they are on the bike. We asked what they like and what they don’t like about their current rainwear. We have made 5 prototypes for our friends to wear and test while riding in the rain and used their feedback to make design improvements. We have participated in a “Pop-up shop” and the Amsterdam Biking and Walking Fair (Fiets en Wandelbeurs) to gauge customer interest. We have a distributor from Denmark ready to place an order and a number of customers waiting for the first OneSuitWonders to become available for purchase.

Next Step

We are now ready to go into production! This is where you come into our story. Help us to make the OneSuitWonder become a reality. Commuter cyclists around the world will arrive at their destination dry and looking stylish, and young women in Ghana will be given the opportunity to create their own future.

A reminder of what your pledge will go towards:

  • Purchasing our first bulk order of material.
  • Production costs for our first production run in Poland and Ghana.
  • Setting up our partnership with the WGTC and training the young women there.
  • Providing employment for young women in Ghana.
  • Providing employment for women working in a small family-run business in Poland.

Please back us and become part of our story.

Help us to make the OneSuitWonder product range become a reality. Commuter cyclists will thank you for it!

Risks and challenges

Every good project manager should identify potential risks at the beginning of a project. Both the founders of OneSuitWonder have project management experience, have identified the following risks and will work hard to mitigate them. We want to get production happening!

Our biggest challenge is ensuring the girls in Ghana are able to make the carry bags and rain trousers to our specifications and standards. That is why we have built into our budget the costs of Kerry and Carolyn travelling to Ghana for training and quality control of the first prototypes.

We have met with our manufacturers in Poland, who have come recommended by a contact in the Netherlands, seen their finished garments and expect that they will produce the rain suit to our exact specifications and standards.

There is always the risk of manufacturing, sourcing and shipping delays. We will do everything to prevent any delays. We are fortunate to have someone in Ghana who will personally deliver the finished goods to the port for shipping back to the Netherlands.

We anticipate pushing the button on our first production run in Poland by late October 2014. This means the OneSuitWonder rain suits will be delivered to you by early December 2014.

We aim to train the girls in Ghana during November 2014. They will then make the prototypes for quality control and the first order of rain trousers and accompanying carry bags will be made during November.

We expect to deliver the rain trousers, carry bags, and mp3 players, tablet and smart phone waterproof bags to you by early December 2014.

We will keep every backer up to date with any production delays.
