I Love It When A Pen Comes Together...
Spent the day at the shop tweaking final fitment. The bodies are complete, we're going to run through to make sure the cuts are smooth but they look great right off the machine. Obviously they still require post-machine finishing and anodizing but we're making process.
The first few tips are complete. There was a fitment issue as the variance in refill diameter is greater piece-to-piece than we expected but adding a thou to the nib hole diameter will easily fix that issue while allowing for a tight fit with virtually no slop.
Now more good news, both the Fisher and Parker fit like a charm. Turns out that there's just not enough meat to get the Hi-Tec-C to fit without machining a completely new tip and spacer but that might very well be doable after we complete the first production run.
Even better, we found two off-the-shelf springs which give us extremely smooth operation and excellent advancing engament. We'll do some more testing after we've got a greater sample of tips, but we're looking solid right now. It's going better than I expected really.
Now, without further delay... here's the first production (unfinished, unblasted and unanodized so please don't freak out) Ultimate Clicky Pen straight off the machine:
