Hi, Joanne Lurgio from Warwick, Rhode Island, here. I am excited to tell you about my new recording project, "Crossing Jordan," songs of faith, comfort & healing; my fourth full length album and definitely very different from my three previous Americana style albums.
For those who don't know me, I should tell you a little bit about myself. I am about 7 yrs out of the corporate world; time sure does fly as I am now working as a full time musician; singer/songwriter/entertainer & recording artist who plays music in venues; restaurants, coffeehouses, house concerts; all the usual music venues and where ever they'll let me sing. Many of you may not know that during the day I also sing in other settings like senior facilities and memory units, providing much needed music as therapy for the elderly & sick, and also sing for funeral & memorial services. I had already witnessed the power of music with my work playing with Alzheimer & memory patients; seeing the joy & awakening music brings, I like to say we are waking memories one song, one hour at a time; and most recently, have come to realize the important role music plays to provide comfort during the very difficult healing process when we lose a loved one.
I was contacted by Bryan Barrette, music director at St Kevin's Church here in Warwick, RI. He was looking for a soloist to to fill in for weekday funeral & memorial services. I admit, I did hesitate as I was pretty sure this was definitely out of my comfort zone; but I gave it a lot of thought, with my "just say yes" to new opportunities philosophy, I accepted the offer to give this new venture a try. I am so glad I did. I never would have imagined how gratifying this experience would be. Once again, to witness the power of music bringing healing & comfort. I have come to realize the service is an important part in the beginning of a healing process when we lose a loved one and the music is an important part of that service. I am so honored to be a part of this process. Singing the old familiar hymns I have sang hundreds of times over the years, they somehow feel different as I am now singing them with “purpose," my own personal awakening to the beauty of the songs, the meaning and stories being told, and I can feel the comfort. So often, people have approached us after a service to let us know how much they loved the songs and were touched by our music and say thank you. So often that I started to think about recording my favorite hymns. The more I thought about it, the more the thought turned to need; I "need" to record these songs, for myself and for others who would appreciate the comfort, healing and peace this music brings. Which brings us to THIS new recording project, “Crossing Jordan."
At the risk of sounding crazy I shared my idea with Bryan and asked if he would accompany me on my project. He didn't think I was crazy at all and agreed to join me. With that, I called my good friend Jack Gauthier; very talented, Grammy nominated producer and owner of Lakewest Recording Studio in West Greenwich, RI and asked if he would like to join me. Jack was all in. Jack also produced my first & third albums, Find a Dream...catch it if you dare & Rise From the Storm.
Excited and thrilled to have my team in place for the foundation of Crossing Jordan. There is more to come, musicians & vocalists. I will tell you about that later.
I have selected 10 of my favorite hymns. was not an easy task, but chose those that resonate most with me and I have included two original songs, one is "Crossing Jordan," the title song of the album.
So, this is my project, "Crossing Jordan," and now a little about this Kickstarter Campaign. I call it the "Crossing Jordan Adventure." I had such fun and great success with my RISE FROM THE STORM Kickstarter, I thought I would try it again for Crossing Jordan. For those not familiar with Kickstarter, Kickstarter is a fundraising opportunity for family, friends and music fans to be a part of the project, help bring the project life by offering upfront support. I am reaching out to my family, friends & fans of Joanne Lurgio Music for your help. It is fun and easy. But, very important to know:
THIS IS TIME SENSITIVE… I HAVE ONLY 30 DAYS TO REACH MY GOAL. It is an ALL or NOTHING endeavor … so move in a little closer and I will tell you all about it.
First, I ask, would you consider pre-ordering your copy of Crossing Jordan? If you are intending to get a copy of Crossing Jordan when complete and released, I wonder if you might consider pre-ordering your CD now instead? You will be guaranteed a CD with your name on it when it is delivered to my door step, and, at the same time the upfront funds from the Kickstarter campaign are helpful in moving the project forward as I go along and potentially help me achieve goals I may not be able to do on my own. There are many ways to participate. You choose your level of participation by choosing one of 21 "rewards" I have created; Something for everybody, ranging from a simple donation (I assure you every $$ is appreciated and helpful) to being noted as a "Golden Executive Producer" in the CD liner notes! It is up to you, YOU CHOOSE! YOU PICK YOUR REWARD; like, a signed CD, HOUSE CONCERT, Crossing Jordan T-shirts, autographed photo, CD artwork prints signed by the artist, your name listed in the liner notes. See all the reward selections right here on this page. (*see picture at the end of this message to view CD artwork for ks rewards; also note, the pledge amount for rewards is adjustable)
When you pledge you will become part of the Crossing Jordan inner circle. I will send updates, pictures, sneak peeks, keep you in the know during the whole process. Come on and join the fun! And please know, your support is greatly appreciated!
What is needed to complete the CD project:
I have set my initial goal at $3,330
To begin, I am focusing on the basic production costs which includes:
Studio/recording time, musician & vocalist fees, mixing, song licenses, CD artwork, photographer, graphic artist, logo designer, mastering & coding, CD duplication. I goal is to reach this $3,330 goal and then be able to say, “Don’t stop now!! Let’s keep going!”
Add in a stretch goal Stretch Goal! $5,000
Often times post production tasks are cut or diminished due to limited funding. Post production includes: Mailing Costs; envelopes, labels, postage, Radio Promotion, Publicist. Reaching this stretch goal would offer a great opportunity to focus on PR & Marketing. Because Crossing Jordan will be introduced to a new audience of listeners, beyond my current Americana audience, having an appropriate publicist/radio promoter is a critical tool to getting the album out where it needs to be heard.
How about an OFFICIAL “CROSSING JORDAN” VIDEO! That sure would be very cool! With that idea, a SUPER STRETCH GOAL!
Super Stretch Goal ~ $??? Sky is the limit! Official “Crossing Jordan” Video Sounds like fun?

Risks and challenges
Completion of this project is just a matter of getting additional musicians & vocalists into the studio; usually the greatest challenge with everyone's busy schedules. Other than that, I don't foresee anything that might interrupt progress and completion of this projectLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
