I want book artists to have a home—a place with everything they need and people who get them.
I have such a passion for sharing this work with others. When I learned bookbinding and letterpress printing at the Center for Book Arts in NYC, I loved working alongside other binders, printers, and artists. I loved our camaraderie and how we were always learning from each other. When I left NY, I struggled for years to be able to keep doing this work that I loved because I couldn't afford all the tools and equipment I needed, and where was I going to put a 3,000 pound printing press, anyway? My bindery was my living room, and more than a few projects were ruined when I was silly enough to leave my children unattended long enough to go to the bathroom.
I want to help the people like me. People who love book art, paper, printmaking, letterpress, all of this, but don't have the resources to have their own set up.
I currently have just about everything you need for this kind of work, but I really want to add an etching press. Currently, I'm only set up for intaglio. The etching press I'm looking at is about $5000. I'm hoping to use this Kickstarter to jumpstart the coworking space and acquire this final press.
Risks and challenges
It is definitely going to be a challenge to fill all of the rewards by December, but I've done a lot of the design work already and only need to execute. I'm committed to delivering before Christmas, just in case you selected a reward as a gift.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
