WOW! More than 200% funded and over 100 backers strong? My mind is blown. Thank you.
I'd love to take this opportunity to introduce you to the incredible Brooklyn-based musicians who will be leading us in our rainbow revelrie…
Meet the HUNGRY MARCH BAND!!!
I first came across this crew as they were practicing one evening, marching around the sidewalks of my Brooklyn hood. I was walking home from work, and for a second I thought I was hallucinating. Thankfully others around me quickly confirmed, there was indeed a band approaching. I stopped and watched them pass me, breaking into an uncontrollable smile. How can one not smile when confronted with the beauty of a world in which marching bands randomly appear? And it's that joy that I hope we can spread, first amongst ourselves, and then to all those who won't be suspecting a parade full of music and color on their Saturday stroll over the Brooklyn Bridge.
The Hungry March Band is new to the Rainbow Parade! In the past we've worked with the 5-piece Raya Brass Band, and while they are so spirited and will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart, this parade requires all the sound we can get our hands on! The Hungry March Band should be 20 strong.
This video will give you a little taste of their style. I am confident they are gonna bring their ROYGBIV BEST to the festivities!
Know other artists (puppeteers, dancers, singers, performers) who should be a part of the parade? Please send me a message! I'm reaching out to people about collaborations this week.
Again, thank you so much to all those who've supported this campaign for the World's Largest Rainbow Parade, with dollars and/or encouraging words. More updates coming soon.
P.S. Today is my birthday. Yay!
What!? We're funded!? Heck YEAH!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to my amazing friends and the complete strangers who helped us reach this goal so quickly! (By the way, if we were strangers before this, we are now close friends.)
Expect to hear more from me soon on what we will do with any additional funds beyond the original $1500 that we collect, but trust me, it WILL make the world a better and more colorful place.
Wow! It's difficult to describe this feeling, but I can say the look on my face right now is very similar to this:
