ABOUT THE NEW RECORD
Triumvirate is the new Lewis & Clarke album. An enormous amount of time and care is poured into every step of the creation; writing, arranging, recording, mixing and mastering, and now the time has come for you to enjoy the album. We want you to experience the recordings in the best way possible, for the best price, and with your direct involvement.
Triumvirate is being pressed on heavy gram vinyl and issued as a double record because of its length (over an hour of music), which would be impossible to fit on a single record. We're once again working with Furnace MFG, who deliver records of the absolute highest quality.
We are offering the Companion Book for those who further appreciate a physical artifact to accompany their listening experience. This lyric book will be hand-bound with a letterpress printed cover.
The album is being issued on CD as well.
A NOTE FROM LOU
I'm not sure if I can eloquently put into words how happy I am to have the opportunity to share the "first listen" of Triumvirate with you, but I've been looking forward to it along with my cohorts....so here it goes...
There has not been an "official" Lewis & Clarke release since 2009, aside from a handful of singles on the excellent Manimal label. I'm proud to partner with them for the release of Triumvirate. I really appreciate all of the emails and inquiries about "the new album", it's always good to know people care. I've been following advice from David Lynch: seeking bigger fish in deeper water. I've focused on raising my family while stepping back from the grind of life in order to connect with a deeper inner voice. This voice said: "Take your time with the new record". Fresh perspective turned into the inspiration for the recording and creation of Triumvirate. You'll have to find your own interpretation of course (which I hope you do), but I'd like you to know that the record largely deals with process, and how we often create complexity from simple scenarios.
As a result, I've found myself collaborating with an incredible group of musicians, artists and film makers, and I feel a rush of new momentum and energy surrounding Lewis & Clarke and the new release. The album features my long-time collaborators Ian and Shane O'Hara as well as the formidable violin and viola contributions of Mollibeth Cox and Gretchen Lohse. Our new live line-up includes Anthony Lavdanski on upright bass. I've been working with film-makers Dan Papa and Kevin Haus who have been bringing the imagery and metaphors to life in a visual sense. My life-long friend Keats Rickard also shot and co-directed a video for one of the tracks called "The Ride", in which some very special guests appear.
On the technical end, it is a privilege to record with the talented Nick Krill and to mix with the unique and wild ear of Matt Boynton from Vacation Island. Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering finalized the album and I'm anxiously awaiting the final cuts of the vinyl masters so we can begin manufacturing.
Once again, the artwork is provided by the illustrious Erika Somogyi. Her paintings most closely resemble the washes of sound that I hear in my dreams and I am honored to have her work for the album. Additionally, the cover of the Companion Book will be letter press printed by Samantha Urbanick at Hand Deliver Press.
Stepping back, it certainly is an affirmation to see the power of the combined talent at work on this project. The contribution of so many unique styles and faces of pure intuition has me counting my blessings.
Being at the helm of my own record label has its perks, and one of them is not having to navigate miles of red tape in order to deliver my own music directly to you. The purpose of this campaign is to give you the "first listen" and to be sure that the limited edition vinyl and hand-bound book are in the hands of those who directly support Lewis & Clarke (plus some nice bonus items). By pledging to our cause, you become part of the vision; you directly enable the continuous creation of music you love, in formats that are interesting, beautiful, and affordable objects.
Thanks for reading....and most of all, thanks for listening. I hope you enjoy the music.
The entire recording of Triumvrate is complete: mixed and mastered for both digital and vinyl formats.
Your pledge goes towards covering the remaining essentials:
$5000 = vinyl manufacturing (500 x 2- double LP - heavy gram)
$1000 = Companion Book substrate, letterpress printing, materials, production costs, artwork license, shipping fees
That's where the money goes, and should we exceed our goal, it will go towards a second pressing of the record and more video projects. Thanks again for contributing!
