About this project
The time has come.... to fund a second volume of Penultimate Quest. Last year was a smash success and I'm happy to bring my next volume to Kickstarter.
Penultimate Quest is the story of Harald Nussbaum, an adventurer exploring a never-ending dungeon on a mysterious island. As he begins to search for a way off of the island he begins to unravel the very fabric of reality.
Penultimate Quest began in January 2012 as a way to have some fun with fantasy game tropes, but as I sat down to look for an explanation for a "never-ending dungeon" I began to develop a much wider story.
At this point Penultimate Quest is more than a parody of video game and fantasy tropes, it's also an exploration of philosophy and meaning without being long-winded and preachy. There are always monsters to be killed and loot to be had.
This book is now a reflection of all of my interests; the modern world, history, Plato, Tolkien, escapism, Christianity, Moroccan food, King Arthur, Final Fantasy and story ideas that didn't fit anywhere else.
As always all of my work, including this one, can be read online at my website. My comic is rated PG-13 for "Adult Situations, Language and Violence," the same as Lawrence of Arabia. Incomputech is the author of the music used in the video.
For any of the tiers it will be possible to add additional copies of Volume 1 or 2 for an additional $12.00, or a custom drawing outside of it's tier for $15. Custom drawings are of you (or anyone you want) fighting a barbarian as a fantasy class. Or we can work something out : )
Every book will be signed and doodled in. All levels will receive a link to download a PDF copy of volume 1. Next year I will finish the story with Volume 3. Cheers!
Risks and challenges
Last time I began with the plan of doing print on demand, but when I received so much more I upgraded to traditional offset printing. Offset printing has a much higher cost, but having already gone through one book I know what to expect. This does require that my starting goal be higher, but as long as I can hit this amount I can fulfill the orders and get everything sent out. Last time I was a month or two behind on fulfillment, but that will not be a problem thanks to past experience.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
