The Island of El Dorado (reprint & expansion)
A strategic board game. Explore the island, gather its resources, and cross swords as you race to control powerful shrines.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Sun, August 5 2018 3:00 AM UTC +00:00.
In The Island of El Dorado, you are a brave explorer seeking to discover and control the island's four Shrines. You'll reveal a unique and challenging landscape every single time you play which will require you to adjust your strategy as you go. Managing resources and battling the other explorers, it's a tense and explosive race to control the Shrines first!
The Island of El Dorado is defined by the beautiful artwork which makes up its tiles, resources, and characters. Each gameplay element brings a new life and a new application to these 16th century masterpieces which were created by some of the most iconic and gifted painters in the history of visual art. Graciously opened to the public domain by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, we consider it an honor and a privilege to apply these works of indescribable beauty, mystery, and majesty to the narrative of The Island of El Dorado.
We’ve partnered with Ship Naked, a well-known fulfillment company, to deliver the most efficient shipping experience possible. They did an incredible job on our first campaign getting packages to our backers quickly and undamaged. We’ve also subsidized much of the applicable shipping and taxes to keep prices as low as possible for our backers.
We’re at the beginning of something great. El Dorado Games came to life in 2017 when Daniel Aronson, Nick Tompkins, and Michael Howard had a dream and over 4500 backers like you made it a reality. Since then, we’ve been working tirelessly on this game, this first expansion, and much, much more to pave the way for a long and exciting future of fun and engaging tabletop games.
We want you on this journey with us. The feedback we received before, during, and after the first campaign from our families, friends, and backers is a huge part of what made The Island of El Dorado what it is. We want to hear your ideas, see your islands, and know both the things you love about the game and the areas you think we could improve. Our success or failure is not our own; we’re all in this together and we want you on board!
This is a game for every kind of player. We designed this game to be something that would appeal as much to heavy gamers as it would to people who aren’t into the hobby at all. Simple rules and mechanics are combined with complex strategies and just enough luck to level the playing field. The result is an experience that’s exciting for players of any experience or skill level.
Availability is Limited. While we intend to pursue retail partnerships in the future, we’re presently using Kickstarter and Ship Naked as our only method of distribution for our games. It was astounding to see copies of our game from the first Kickstarter selling for upwards of $100 on eBay after fulfillment, and we hope that with this second printing everyone who wants to join in the fun has an opportunity to grab a copy of the game and expansion at a price less than what they’d be sold for at retail! This KS Edition will include stretch goals and higher quality finishes than what is possible in retail versions.
Every one of you is needed. We were overwhelmingly humbled and excited to see the support we received during the first Kickstarter campaign. As a result, we were able to use the funds we raised to conceive and mass produce one of the most beautiful tabletop games we’d ever seen. This absolutely would not have happened if we hadn’t had the support of so many backers, and that need remains in this new campaign. Every backer who supports us and every dollar we raise helps us to pack this game with the highest quality components and materials that we possibly can. The sky is the limit!
El Dorado Games started with three friends just trying to make a game we could play together at game night. With the success of the first Kickstarter and overwhelming positive reviews, our new goal is to bring all the fun and excitement we’ve had to friend groups around the world. We’re thankful for every single one of you and we’re excited you’re on this rollercoaster with us!
When designing The Island of El Dorado, we wanted it to be a game that our wives (who are not gamers) would actually play with us. Every decision was based on creating a great gateway game; one that hardcore gamers can bring to a casual gamer’s house to ease them into a realm of experiences involving more strategy and focus. The mechanics are simple, but the tactical decisions are complex. Casual gamers have enough quick-and-easy fun to keep them engaged and there’s just enough luck to keep a relatively level playing field. It’s the intense strategy game that your grandma can play with you…and win! If you’ve been gaming your whole life or if this is your first time with a game like this, we’ve worked hard to make The Island of El Dorado an experience you’ll love.
Still, there exists a subset of gamers who prefer their games to be entirely tactical, with little to no luck affecting the strategies they’ve put in place. We want our game to be just as much fun for these players as it is for a first-time gamer, so we’ve designed “hardcore mode”, a supplementary set of rules which shifts the dynamic and feel of the game deeper into the realm of forward-thinking, calculated strategy. Here’s how it works:

Risks and challenges
Our first campaign was successfully delivered to 4500+ backers around the world EARLY or on time! We have done proper preparation to make sure we maintain this standard of timeliness. That being said, our biggest risk is the timeframe. Anytime you manufacture a game in China, the risk is higher for delays. Panda Manufacturing is the best in the business, and I've done everything I can up to this point to make this a smooth process going forward. I've also added 2 months of buffer space to the timeline in case any surprises pop up.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
