Greetings! And thanks for checking out my Kickstarter Project!
I am an outdoor trip leader, sea kayaker, backpacker, river rafter, and wilderness trail technician. I am also a freelance dancer, choreographer, silk aerialist, and dance instructor. Hike My Hike, Dance My Dance is where these two worlds meet.
The wilderness is my muse for dance. I spend a good part of each year living and working in the wilderness, which fuels the creative process for my choreography and dancing. This project joins the two. I am going to dance at my point of inspiration.
The foundation of my project is a journey. In April 2012, I will start at the Mexican border and 5-½ month later finish at the Canadian border... all on foot. My route will be all 2,650 or so miles of the Pacific Crest Trail.
During this trek, I will be exploring where and how the worlds of dance and wilderness meet. I will be creating a series of solo dance pieces that are drawn from experiences on the trail at the inspiring locations in which I find myself. The resulting video will be part documentary, part dance for film. It will combine it all: the trials and the successes of a long hike, the process creating the dances, the finished pieces, and how we survive it all.
Joining me will be my video crew. They are also known as my father and my sister. They will also be logistical and navigation technicians, artistic advisors, and whatever else I can get them to help with. However, they will be funding their own journeys.
Funding will help cover travel costs to and from the trail, supplies, and production of the video. Fortunately, I will be saving a lot on rent for rehearsal space. Trail is free. The amount I am requesting will only cover a portion of total costs for this project. Most of the funding is coming out of my own pocket.
Remember, at Kickstarter, funding only happens if my project gets 100% backing. Pledge your support- become part of the journey, and get some fun rewards!
Check out my website WildernessDancer.com for more info about me, my dance education and portfolio, and stories of previous treks, travels and adventures.
Thanks for your support. The wilderness and the dance await!
