About this project
In Serengeti: A Race For Life, you and a friend will compete in the African Savannah in a last ditch attempt to preserve the ecosystem and ensure there is a future for its wildlife.
Serengeti is not just another deck building game. The game was specifically designed to ensure that your experience is unique, not just in term of game mechanics but also in respect to the theme and its integration.
The game is played over a variable number of turns during which you will track animals, providing you with unique ways to deal with the various threats in the game as well as helping you efficiently manage your resources.
At the end of the game, victory points will be awarded depending on the players' deck content as well as majority in the Savannah. The competition track may also tilt the outcome in favour of the player who best achieved to stay one (or more) step ahead of his opponent!
Serengeti is a pretty straightforward affair: the rules can be learned in minutes and by the third season (turn) you'll be focused on how to best squeeze every last bit of action out of your cards.
Still, we think it's nice to get a visual overview of how the game plays like before digging into the rulebook, so we've put together a short video introduction outlining the main game concepts, to help you get started:
You'll probably want to browse through the rules at some point however, to clarify aspects of the game not covered in the video, so here they are:
If this sounds good to you, we encourage you to try the game for yourself. To do so, just back this project at any level and we'll provide you with a 'Print and Play' version of the game featuring 6 animals and print-friendly graphics.
IMPORTANT: the video above features the game components during the development stages.
The game intended content and artwork is described in the following section.
Serengeti is meant to be enjoyed anywhere and everywhere - within limits, sure, but we reckon that if your table is big enough for a bit of arm-wrestling fun, you'll be just fine!
So, we've made sure all the components are sized adequately to fit that bill and the box is small enough so that you can take Serengeti with you when you leave the house.
That's not to say you won't get your money's worth as the box is packed with goodness!
Here's what you'll find in the game box:
(120 cards total, 57x89mm / 2.25x3.5")
- 8 animals (9 copies of each)
- 8 rocks (1 per animal)
- 8 carcasses
- 8 scorpions
- 10 trail cards
- 12 event cards
- competition track
The thematic integration has been at the core of the game development, with animals featuring skills that can be easily associated with their bearer.
It was equally important in our minds and eyes that we source the best artwork possible to maximise the game immersion, without detracting from the speedy game play.
Katia Filipovic has been a wildlife artist and fine arts craftswoman for over 20 years and has been featured in countless hi-profile UK countryside magazines.
A proud member of the Hand Engravers Association of Great Britain, she strives to promote nature, art and a lifestyle that can hopefully help this earth recover from the madness of our time.
Working with the designer, she put together a stunning line-up of everyone's favourite African wildlife, and we can't wait for you to have this beautiful game in your hands!

Note that the game will ship to backers as soon as we receive it back from production, regardless of pledge. Additional items will ship alongside it if possible/practical, or separately, at our costs, around the same time.
IMPORTANT: Our aim is to deliver the game to backers around December time. Although our current time line makes it likely that your pledge will be delivered for the holiday season, we cannot guarantee that you will receive it in time for Christmas, and you should pledge accordingly.
With such amazing art, it would be have been a shame not to offer you the opportunity to get hold of some very special items featuring the animals.
First off is a set of 8 oversized cards, approximately 90x140mm (3.5x5.5"). These items are included in the 'Conservationist' pledge, but if you would like additional sets, for yourself or to gift, just add £8 to your pledge amount.
The other items on offer as add-ons are very special indeed: full size reproduction of the animals on A5 paper (approximately 150x210mm / 5.85x8.25"), signed by the artist.
They will be printed on hi-quality fine art paper with archival quality and packed carefully to ensure safe delivery. Each print will be signed by hand, not as part of the printing process.
Note that availability during this Kickstarter is limited, but they are not exclusive items: overall availability worldwide and over time is technically unlimited, at the discretion of the artist.
To add one or more print to your pledge, just increase the total amount by £15 for each print you would like to acquire. We will contact you post-Kickstarter to confirm which animal(s) you are interested in.
If you would like a full set we highly recommend you to consider the 'Benefactor' pledge. Additional prints may be added to that pledge.
With your help, once we hit our funding goal, we will unlock stretch goals and make the game even better. Nothing will cost you extra: if we unlock it and you have backed to receive the game then you will receive it!
But let's get the ball rolling with a social media goal, go and tell your friends about this great project and be rewarded for it:
Shipping will be customs-friendly for customers based in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia.
Shipping costs are dependent on the number of games you pledge for:
- UK: £3.50 for single copy; £1 per extra game
- EU: £5 for single copy; £2.50 per extra game
- US/CA: £6 for single copy; £3 per extra game
- Australia/Other*: £8 for single copy; £4 per extra game
All additional items, namely the oversized cards included in the 'Conservationist' pledge (or as add-ons) and the prints signed by the artist ('Benefactor' pledge or as add-ons) will not be subject to separate postage charges.
IMPORTANT: please do not add shipping to your pledge amount, it will be requested separately after the campaign has ended.
* Note that we have had to limit the areas we can ship to based upon experience from previous Kickstarters. Please contact us if your country is not listed in the available destinations when placing your pledge.
Risks and challenges
We have been successfully producing games for 6 years and have worked on games that offer much more complex manufacturing challenges than Serengeti offers.
We have done as much of the work as possible before launching the Kickstarter and once completed we are confident we can produce and deliver the game on time and to the highest standards, as expected of a GCT Studios product.
However, there is always the possibility of unforeseen factors outside of our control. We are as prepared as possible for any such bumps in the road and have experience from our successfully funded and delivered Kickstarters for Rise of the Kage (2014) and The Pioneers Program (2016).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
