The Fountain of Life and the Magic Castle
As I write this we are very close to $100k. We had a great surge on Monday because of a highly successful reddit AMA. Thank you to all of you who took part and asked questions or upvoted.
There are some more game play videos taken from the Chaos Reborn prototype. UnstableVoltage recorded a 2 vs 2 team match, in which our opponents battled against the odds with some excellently judged disbelieves by Fat Bat (aka Robert Faludi, one of our artists). You can see some more 4 player action over at Fire Water Gasoline.
The X-COM Files: How Alien Invaders, Rebel Squads, and Gooey Blobs Took Strategy Gaming by Storm is a new book by David Craddock which looks at the history of my earlier games all the way up to the first X-COM game. David's previous book, Stay Awhile and Listen: How Two Blizzards Unleashed Diablo and Forged a Video-Game Empire, is an excellent history of the early years of Blizzard Entertainment - I highly recommend it.
Extra Copies - Clarification
When you purchase an extra copy of the game it does include early access to playable versions of the game, but it does not include any of the other rewards from Apprentice (the game guide, art book, music) or anything from any other reward. You can add extra copies of the game to your reward for $15 each. To do this you have to increase your pledge by multiples of $15 without changing your selected reward. I will send a survey out at the end of the campaign to check with you exactly what you required with your increased pledge amount.
Now for a few interesting snippets about a couple of Law spells with some rather nice concept art.
The Magic Castle
This spell did feature in the original Chaos, but its new incarnation in Chaos Reborn is much more impressive. When successfully cast, a castle rises around the wizard enveloping the six spaces surrounding the wizard's position. Any wizard or creature occupying a castle is protected from any attack, including magical attacks. Enemy creatures cannot enter it, but they can attack it. Each element of the castle is a separate entity, so the central element and the six surrounding elements require a lot of effort to destroy. Magic Castles can also provide protection for a team mate's wizard and creatures, so this is a good defensive spell for team matches.
The Fountain of Life
This is a powerful new spell that provides limited resurrections for killed creatures. The Fountain of Life is a structure which is summoned in a vacant space next to the casting wizard. If the wizard or one of his creatures is killed anywhere in the arena it will be immediately resurrected next to the Fountain. However, it has a limited capacity for resurrection and will become empty. It is also vulnerable to attack, so it should be kept out of the way or protected in some way. Placing it at the centre of a Magic Castle would be an ideal strategy.
There is another Kickstarter campaign gong on right now which I think deserves your attention. Dragon Fin Soup is a very charming SNES style RPG with Roguelike elements, set in a twisted fairytale world on a giant Space Turtle with a cheerful, yet raging (alcoholic), shotgun wielding Heroine on a path of destruction, murderous Revenge and Magic. It will be available for PC, Mac, Linux, PS3, PS4 and PS Vita.
