"THE SHOW ME SHOW" is a live action series with puppets & animation designed for kids with autism & special needs, and their families, to have fun, together.
While presenting early science & math concepts (counting to three to dance the waltz or using simple engineering such as a ramp to get a prop on stage). "THE SHOW ME SHOW" will also help autistic kids and special needs kids recognize and work through everyday social and emotional situations (e.g. meeting people; playing together; handling change; recognizing emotional reactions in others and with themselves; etc.). In this way, they and their families can not only help the characters create the show but, can then talk about and even practice the social/emotional skills once the show is over.
The video of "Fynnias" singing "Say Hi," is about what to do when encountering different people. Noel has worked on a lot of award-winning children's television series for over thirty years as a performer, writer and director, and has made a lot of friends who can and will be involved in "THE SHOW ME SHOW" - performers, writers, and composers who've been nominated and have won many awards (including Emmys, Grammys, & Tonys).
The goal of this campaign is to raise funds needed for this first episode: TWO TEN MINUTE STORIES of "THE SHOW ME SHOW."
The FIRST SEASON would be five downloadable episodes, each "show" ten minutes in length - in a "CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE" style. Research has shown that kids with autism & special needs respond to using personal portable devices and tablets.
At the start of each show, the day's "guest star" is revealed - a sound (e.g. "laughter"), a color (e.g. "blue"), a number (e.g. "three"), or a shape (e.g. "circle" or the "human "hand"). Two characters will have an idea on what kind of show to do. Then the viewer will be asked choose who they want help create a show! The viewer will "pick & click" a character and then the show proceeds in THAT direction. Then, because you downloaded the episode, you can go back and pick THE OTHER CHARACTER to see the SAME show in a NEW, different direction. Thus, each episode is two shows for the price of one!
Giving kids a choice helps them acquire decision making skills. NO children's series has EVER engaged the young viewer in this way, before. After making the choice, the cast invites - needs - the viewer's help to create and perform the show, actively getting the viewer to participate while learning skills for working in group settings. Empowering any child boosts their confidence and helps them want to try new things.
I'm proud to say that my resumé is most people's childhood memory. I've worked on many award-winning children's series for over thirty years as a performer, script writer, song writer, and director. I've been a bear in a big blue house (for which I got nominated for a Daytime Emmy as "Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series"), to a dragon in Eureeka's castle, to every "snuffle-upa-relative" on Sesame Street. I've also made a LOT of professional friends to help me create "THE SHOW ME SHOW" - including Emmy, Grammy, and Tony nominated/winning composers, performers and writers.
The team assembled will include colleagues and friends Noel has worked with on proven examples of the best of children's entertainment. Among those committed to "THE SHOW ME SHOW" are:
James William Wojtal, Jr. (pronounced "Voy-tal") is an extraordinary puppet designer, builder and also an exceptional performer who worked for the Jim Henson Company from 1998 to 2002, on international versions of Sesame Street and Disney's Bear in the Big Blue House. James will be the chief art director for "THE SHOW ME SHOW" to design and build all the characters (having started with "Fynnias").
Jim Camacho has a long and successful history in music. As co-founder of the famed 1990s South Florida band "The Goods," Jim has also enjoyed a profound touring career with national acts like Alicia Keys and John Legend. As a solo artist, Jim’s songwriting and performances continue to bring him critical acclaim.
Starting in 2012, Jim composed original songs for Noel MacNeal's "Who Put The Trick In Trick Or Treat: Tales Of Amazing Tricksters;" "Beasts of the Magical World" (2013), and "The Carnival of Extraordinary Animals" (2014) all for the New York Bronx Zoo's annual BOO AT THE ZOO CELEBRATION. He will be the musical director to oversee and also compose songs and underscoring for "THE SHOW ME SHOW."
The UNT Kristin Farmer Autism Center staff is a family of dedicated, compassionate, and caring individuals, selected for their extensive knowledge and experience in autism, and their demonstrated success in a wide variety of professional areas. I am proud and honored to have them be a part of the consulting curriculum team for "THE SHOW ME SHOW."
Since 2013, I've co-taught the television puppetry course "Beyond the Sock" at UNT. So it is perfect for "THE SHOW ME SHOW" to be shot at the studios of The University of North Texas, Denton.
Department head James M. Martin (who created "Beyond the Sock") has an MFA in Production and has worked in a variety of production environments including news, commercial and corporate production with stints as a news producer, technical director and production manager. With a specialty in editing, Mr. Martin also teaches courses in studio and field production, writing and various production workshops. He will be editing supervisor and director of "THE SHOW ME SHOW."
That's right! NONE of this can happen without YOU! You will always be the most important part of the show and your support and involvement will help "THE SHOW ME SHOW" become a reality for so many kids with autism and special needs who really need it.
PLUS, we will be asking for short videos from YOU based on a guest star. Send it it and we'll use it for a future episode! See? You really ARE a part of this extravaganza!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk? Not doing this. Really.
There is not another project like this for kids of autism and special needs and their families/caregivers. This show will fill the void left behind by Bear (in the Big Blue House) and Mister Rogers; shows that spoke directly to the viewer in a clear direct, sincere manner. "THE SHOW ME SHOW" will be the platform kids of autism & special needs will use to help in handling social skills, including dealing with sudden change, meeting new people, and how to make and interact with new friends.
The financial goal of this campaign is to raise funds needed for TWO TEN MINUTE EPISODES of "THE SHOW ME SHOW." All the components needed to create this episode, the whole series, in fact, are in place and ready to go. We just need the money! And that means YOUR HELP.
We will keep you updated and informed with the progress of creating the show once we get the full funding. I know WE can do this, TOGETHER, and help make "THE SHOW ME SHOW" a reality.
