Howdy everyone and thanks for checking out the kickstarter campaign for our upcoming project Kolache, TX. What exactly is Kolache, TX? It's a twenty minute short documentary offering a behind the scenes look at the bakery/storefront in West, TX, Czech Stop.
With Kolache, TX we are interested in telling the story of this Texan institution with no narrator, voice-over or any other trope commonly associated with the films or television programs concerning food.
As artists, we draw inspiration from filmmakers such as Fredrick Wiseman and NIcolas Philibert who both utilize cinema verite to document their stories. This style of film making works as a time capsule for it's subjects. In our case not just the store and it's confections but also the people, sights and sounds will be preserved, with a shelf life longer than a piece you might find on cable TV.
Utilizing a fly on the wall approach, the viewer will journey through a 24 hour life cycle of one of Texas' most beloved pit stops. From the trucks unloading supplies to the cashiers ringing up orders, the viewer will get a chance to see just how these sweet treats come to life.
We hope to capture a moment in time, as respectfully and accurately as possible. No excessive glitz or pomp, just the store at work. There is a certain mystique around Czech Stop that any Texan can attest to. We hope our film not only ads to everyone's experience but also share this uniquely Texan institution across the globe.
This project is a labor of love on my part, but one I believe will have broad appeal and therefor want to share. Two thousand is a fairly modest goal for a film project. All of my previous projects have been produced on much smaller budgets.
We believe that with $2,000 we can meet the bare minimum of supplies needed to bring our vision to life. Any funds raised after the goal will be icing on the kolache. The more funds we have the better equipment we can attain and more importantly, the more festivals we can submit to.

Risks and challenges
Honestly, the risk here are minimum. We have met with the CEO of Czech Stop and have been granted access to shoot what we need. The Kickstarter's success will allow us to fully realize our vision of this film as opposed to just working within our means. If you do have any questions please feel free to ask! I will preemptively say... Sorry, no we can not ship you a dozen kolaches.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
