About

Each half-hour episode of THE RIDERVILLE RADIO SITCOM takes place during a famous game in the Roughriders' history. Stories will centre on a group of fans at each game, being forced to deal with any variety of commotion around them.

Contemporary news, politics, and key moments of the game in each era, pack the comedy into something that feels like Corner Gas meeting Bull Durham on the AM dial of history.

The series premiers on 620 CKRM in June. Click 'PLAY' in the above graphic to hear a demo of the series.

TIMELINES

February 2015: Upon reaching our funding goal, we put the production team together.

Research and writing of 10 episodes begins. Capturing the history of the Riders and the province will be as important as telling great stories fused with hilarity.

This process will involve talking to a lot of Rider fans throughout the province about their experiences. I am especially keen to speak with old-timers, who attended games back in the 40s, 50s, & 60s. There will also be a lot of newspaper archives being combed through as well.

March 2015: We submit our application to Creative Saskatchewan, a funding agency tasked to assist in marketing and selling the work of Saskatchewan’s creative industries.

April 2015: By late April, the writing of all 10 episodes will be complete. The casting for those episodes will be well underway.

May 2015: Ten episodes will be recorded over five nights before a LIVE studio audience. A STUDIO version will also be recorded at this time, without an audience in the room.

June 2015: The series debuts on 620 CKRM. The release schedule will be subject to change, pending programming decisions at the station.

Risks and challenges

In 20 years, I have written, directed, and/or produced over 60 episodes of documentary and scripted television. In that time, I have learned that nothing ever goes completely to plan – little fires inevitably flare up.

The best way to deal with set-backs is to anticipate them, surround myself with a great team, and draw upon our collective experience to tackle them.

We have secured the rights to use the Saskatchewan Roughriders' trademarks, and the team has agreed to promote the series throughout this Kickstarter campaign and beyond.

The series will premiere on 620 CKRM (the Roughriders' radio rights holder) in June, and the broadcaster has also agreed to promote the series throughout this Kickstarter campaign (and beyond).

My production budget includes industry standard rates for all fees and services. The production team includes many established industry veterans, with decades of experience. Our ample timelines give us five months to deliver 10 half-hour episodes.

Funding for this project will be divided between sponsorship, a government grant, and pre-sales through this Kickstarter campaign.

*** PRODUCTION TEAM ***

JARRETT RUSNAK – Writer, Producer, Creator

I was born and raised in Regina, where the Roughriders are more than just a football team, but a religion where Tony Gabriel is the devil.

I am an award-winning writer, producer, and director. I have been in charge of 60+ people on big movies, and I have been a one-man crew, lugging two camera packages across the world. I’ve dealt with everything from common HR problems in production office settings, to mollifying corrupt Romanian cops for access to locations that were supposed to have been cleared for production.

I have been running my own production company (Dacian Productions Inc.) since 1995, which is where most of my production and management experience comes from.

As a writer, I draw on my diverse background and wide range of interests. I have been published alongside respected journalists on cfl.ca, and rodpedersen.com.

Upon moving to Toronto in 2011, I began to transition my career towards television writing. To this end I have written three TV pilots, one screenplay, two sitcoms, and one web series. My comedy, ‘Not Being A Dick’ will be published by Next Stage Press in February.

My personal blog can be found at www.jarrettrusnak.com

CARY CIESIELSKI – Producer

Cary has produced, directed, and edited hundreds of corporate videos, and television commercials. He has created soundtracks for feature films, many television documentaries, and a handful of shorts. Cary co-created the television documentary series, “Untamed Gourmet,” with Ian Toews from 291 Film Company, and directed half of the episodes in the two completed seasons they have produced.

Over the last 20 years, Cary has managed cast, crew, and post-production teams on a variety of scales. He has done the heavy lifting with small crews, and focused teams of dozens on a singular vision, even when much of that vision was a visual effect that had not yet been built.

Cary has bled green since attending his first Roughriders game in 1978.

ROB KING – Writer, Creative Consultant

Rob King has been writing and directing film and television for the past 20 years. His selected credits include the feature film Hungry Hills, selected for competition at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2009, A Cruel Wind Blows, a multi award winning documentary on 40 years of nuclear testing in Kazakhstan and Silk Cyclone, a short dance film that ran at Regina’s Mackenzie gallery in August, 2012.

Rob is also a recipient of a Canadian Comedy Award and a multi-Gemini nominated producer and director in both comedy and drama.

MICHAEL MACNAUGHTON – Sound Design

Michael is president and managing partner of the Twisted Pair Group with offices in Regina and Calgary. Twisted Pair is a multimedia production company which creates high profile advertising campaigns using HD video, audio and mobile applications as well as post production services for film, television and music clients across western Canada. Clients include SaskTel, Canada Safeway, Casino Regina, Farm Credit Corporation and many others.

Michael was previously president of Sask Music and was chair of the board and president of Regina JUNO Awards 2013 Inc. He sits on the board of directors of Regina Exhibition Association Ltd which operates Evraz Place in Regina.
