I want to encourage middle school students to be involved with music through the use of Ukuleles.
I have two passions in my life: teaching and music. I play a wide variety of instruments but primary focus on the guitar. Over the years, I have developed recording skills to fulfill my need to record original music that I have composed. When I am not recording, I am at work teaching music! How fun!
I am a 6th grade general music teacher who primarily focuses on vocal music. However, I would love to use my guitar skills in the classroom and teach them how to play. I have two guitars. I have twenty-eight students in each of my classes. It is not beneficial for them to watch me play, or for that matter, watch me teach one other student how to play.
I have searched for funding through every avenue and have to come to find out that our district is broke, and there is no funding at all for anything extra. That is all well in good, but I don't have anything but my voice to begin with!
The students need exposure to working instruments. They need to be challenged to be a multifaceted musician capable of more than just singing. I want to inspire them in a new way. Providing the funds to purchase a classroom set of Ukuleles will do just that. My goal with each class that passes through will be to record one cover song as well as create their own song.
Money raised from this Kickstarter campaign will go towards purchasing 30 Ukuleles, class set of beginner books and music, materials to build a moving storage rack, replacement strings and other repairs.
You can be apart of expanding some student horizons! Thank you for your consideration and I hope that you help make this dream a reality!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
When teaching an instrument there are many things that could put a snag in the project: keeping student focus and engagement; addressing all the needs of the students; keeping guitars in tune and maintained.
Instruments will be kept at school. Tuning will be taught to the students so they know the proper techniques to do this well without damaging the instrument. Using current popular music will help to keep students engaged.
