MyWuXing CARD GAME is where Rock Paper Scissors meets Chinese Astrology. A fun card game that teaches the ancient science of the Five Elements (WuXing) through dynamic interactive game play and visual masterpieces. The game is for 2-8 player for any age range from 8 to 88!
The Game pits your own Wu Xing (5 elements of Water Wood Fire Earth Metal) against the universal elements and your opponent’s elements. The game is further influenced by the powerfully “auspicious” Infinite Dragon & the dark “inauspicious” Destructive Star – powerful cards that can turn the game on a whim! The last player remaining with elements in hand or the player with most elements in hand is the winner of the game.
The concept of the Five Elements has been used for 1000s of years to explain a wide array of phenomena, from cosmic cycles to the seasons on Earth, from combat in martial arts to healing benefits in traditional Chinese medicine & harmonizing surroundings in Feng Shui.
MyWuXing ART showcases the beautiful work of highly talented young artist Dia illustrating her unique imagination in expressing the characteristics of each of the Five Elements, the Infinite Dragon & Destructive Star playing cards & the design of the card back. All these pieces can be purchased as an individual 11x17 high quality print or a set of prints with Pledges. This order is a no brainer. The prints are a perfect size to make any wall look many times better & can also be placed in the appropriate directions for Feng Shui purpose.

Risks and challenges
THE GAMEPLAY - The game took a while to design, the initial formula which had lots of swing & was highly entertaining included a dice that represented the “Universe” (you will get this when you order the deck!). However, to make the game the dice meant costly production. I had to replace the dice with cards but the number of cards used had to add up for both symmetry & gameplay to be maintained. I stumbled across the correct formula through trial & error.
The deck comprises 8 of each of the 5 Element Cards + 8 infinite Dragons accounting for 48 Cards. 8 being a good luck number in ancient Chinese culture. Then there are 4 Destructive Star cards in the deck (& that card destroys!) with number 4 being a bad luck number in ancient Chinese culture. This led to the standard 52 card deck solving the problem of high production costs with a dice involved. The numbers also make total sense to the theme of the game.
THE RULES - With the gameplay formula in place the Rules became a challenge. To explain the rules of a NEW game in layman’s English is not easy to get on a 7”x10” rule sheet folded to the size of a card & slotted into the tuckbox. The rules are a guide & include:
1. Learn WuXing to teach the game & 5 element concept.
2. Think WuXing with some advanced play options where smart moves & bluffs can be applied.
There are plays in the game that I do not know yet with new smart moves turning up all the time as the depth of play is still being discovered. But I can assure you 8 yr old kids are getting it! There will be a blog giving tips on strategy & play. I will continue to tweak the rules as the game evolves taking into account ideas & comments.
THE ART & ILLUSTRATIONS - I have emphasized the illustrations to showcase some brilliant Art. This means that people who do not play cards can buy the Art that represent each of the 5 Elements for harmonious feng shui purpose or because it is just nice to have on the wall. I got very lucky with the artist and you can read all about her on my website. I hope you buy the prints as this will encourage her talent development & I intend to discover more brilliant artists should my model work.
THE BUSINESS MODEL – Margins are tight and I have invested out of my own pocket so that I have something really good to give in return for any generous pledges (more than USD 1!). Should the game take off there are lots of ideas related to the Gameplay & the Art. There are 2 spare cards in the deck to use as Power Cards. Yin & Yang can be introduced to add more twist & further learning. There can be versions that can help understand Feng Shui or traditional Chinese medicine in depth with the help of Feng Shui Consultants & TCM Doctors. And there is creating more brilliant Art related to characteristics of the Five Elements & much much more.
So BUY A CARD GAME to protect, absorb & destroy & BUY SOME ART to encourage, imagine & create.
