We are four women who have formed a production company - Drew Court Productions - and are making a short film that brings together post 9/11 life, aging baby boomers, and jigsaw puzzles - all syncing up in the glitter and grime of Las Vegas!
JIGSAW is the story of lonely widow Mona Hampton and gay hairdresser Tony DiAngelo whose lives collide on a run-down street in Las Vegas as each tries to pursue a dream and release their pasts. They discover that jigsaw puzzles become the guide to a different way of life as each moves forward to grasp the future.
After living for decades in New Jersey, Mona struggles with her brother Bob and their crises growing up in Las Vegas and working at the family delicatessen. He wants no part of their childhood while Mona feels that she can only come to terms with her past by recreating part of it -- in the form of a restored deli! Tony wants to block the memories of 9/11 and the loss of his partner and the life they shared in New York. Las Vegas is the perfect place to lose himself, move on, and fulfill a dream to open his own salon. But each needs the help of the other. As they put the pieces of the jigsaw puzzles together, they are putting the pieces of their lives in order.
We are filming JIGSAW in Las Vegas with local actors and production crews, and editing personnel. We are launching this Kickstarter campaign to rent equipment, film the movie, complete post-production editing, have a premiere in Las Vegas, and enter film festivals. If we receive more than our requested goal, the excess will go into distribution costs -- and more people will have the opportunity to see JIGSAW!
We are folks from New Jersey and Las Vegas combining a history of theatrical and artistic success with entrepreneurial and producing savy to explore the issues of the twenty-first century: What does living in a post 9/11 world mean to the individuals who personally feel the weight of that horrific day? What happens to aging baby boomers as they contemplate the second chapter of their lives? Is it possible to recreate ourselves and live happily ever after?
We want to make an uplifting film: (1) with universal appeal that speaks to everyone, (2) that says hope can sustain us, and (3) proves that life changes can happen where and when we least expect them. We just need to be open to them.
