About

In a parallel universe far far away, there is a kingdom called Fitland and lives King Olaf. King Olaf just succeeded the throne not long ago and wanted to learn to become a great king. Therefore he asks help from his most loyal assistant and friend, Techsaurs, to assist him.

Techsaurs used to have their own kingdom, they are very peaceful and have advance technologies. Their neighbouring kingdoms got jealous, and got together attacked Techsaurs. King Olaf couldn’t sit and watch the peace loving Techsaurs got bullied, he helped Techsaurs to escape the war and took them in as one of Fitland’s own citizens. Techsaurs were so grateful for King Olaf’s kindness and they owed to serve Olaf and become part of Fitland.

Techsaurs suggests King Olaf to spend his leisure time in gardening as it would relief stress and help him become more relaxed. “Once you have less stress, you can then focus on things that’s important and make the best decisions!” So they advice the king. King Olaf took their advice and appointed Techsaurs to take care of the garden. Techsaurs use their mysterious technology and created many energy lands for the garden and plants. They also developed technology to harvest fit energy from exercising and use energy to form new plants.

In a short sentence: YES, IT IS VERY EFFECTIVE!

This is not the first time Shikudo studio is making a fitness game. We partnered with Sydney's renowned designer Okayboss to form Noodum studio, and created 'Wokamon', a tamagotchi and pedometer mash game app and it has been proven to be very effective in helping people to become more active.

We closely followed two hundred Wokamon players, studied their activity patterns and found out:

Daily step count graph based on 200 Wokamon players
Daily step count graph based on 200 Wokamon players
  • 60% of players doubles their workout sessions after two weeks of playing Wokamon
  • 40% of players went from inactive (daily step count less than 5,000 steps) to active (daily step count more than 7,500 steps)
  • Percentage of people walked more than 10k steps per day has increased from 8% to 39% in two months
  • More than 50 of these closely monitored users reported that they have lost weight

We can promise you that Pocket Plants will be more fun and addictive to keep your daily activity on track and helping you establishing a healthier and happier lifestyle!

We have been self funding our projects since our last game, but it's always great to know there are people out there who love our games and give us some extra supports. No matter how the Kickstarter campaign turns out, we are fully committed to finish the project and even planning for more future Shikudo games. This is just to show how serious we are at becoming world's top fitness game studio which aims to make a real change to the world.

If we are lucky to have your supports, this is how we are planning to spend the Kickstarter fund:

We are an Australian owned team operates in Shanghai and we are initiating this Kickstarter campaign using our Australian financial details. Tax for non-Australian tax residents (unfortunately, as we are currently living in Shanghai, it means we are non-Australian tax residents) are very high and hence there is a substantial portion goes into local tax category.

We will announce our stretch goals when we are close to reach to our funding target.

Shikudo is an Australian owned indie game studio in Shanghai, dedicated in mobile fitness games. We are a determined young team which is committed to help people getting a healthier and happier life style by helping them become more motivated with their everyday fitness goals.

Here is a brief intro to our team:

 Pangmao the cat

 CAIN LU

Graphic designer and animator. Cain graduated with a Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation degree, and was probably going to draw CAD for cranes trucks for living but she became a graphic designer instead.

 DAVID LIU

Product and marketing executive and looking after users in general. David found us and our first fitness game Wokamon in a meetup, and he immediately fell in love with this idea. Apart from his passion for fitness games, he is also a marathon runner (with all the smoggy air pollution, it takes a lot of courage to be a marathon runner in China).

 JIAHAN LI

iOS and Unity developer. Jiahan has always been a 学霸 (Chinese pinyin: Xué bà, literal meaning: ‘learning lord’. In other words: a straight A student.) since childhood. Apart from coding, Jiahan loves to share his knowledge and philosophy on the universe and us the human beings.

 LEN LI

Unity developer. Len came from Dena and has great game development experience since her graduation. She also loves to explore and experiencing the newest indie games in the market and shares her insights with the team.

 RUI WU

Game design. Nick name: Mr W. Mr W. has been in the game industry for over four years and he has worked on many top performing games, eg, Taichi Panda.

 YEYE ZHANG

Graphic designer. Yeye is a gifted designer. Before joining the team, she had been creating amazing and top quality art work for 'Learn to speak English fluently' - top English learning app in China. Yeye's work is truly extraordinary and her creation has allowed Pocket Plants to attract great attention.

 ALLY ZHU

Project Manager / Person who attends many things / slave to Chairman, Pangmao the cat. Ally has a diverse background in project management, account management, branding, web design and development, as well as banking.

MARS ZHU

Founder at Shikudo. Mars worked as senior software developer in Sydney and Shanghai's top advertising firm JWT and WPP. Mars has always been a game fanatic, he even wanted to become a professional gamer and it is a dream come true to make his own games. His experience in working with Nike also inspired him to help more people to stay active.

Music production

Pocket Plants background music and sound effect by Cece Wen.

Risks and challenges

As we all know there are risks with Kickstarter campaigns - mostly these risks fall into two categories: delayed delivery timelines and cancellation of projects.

As we mentioned previously, we are self funded studio and have already published a successful fitness game. Not only we will finish the new game, Pocket Plants, we also have other new games coming out.

Also, Shikudo is an experienced team, each member has years of project delivery experience and has the skill set and mind set to take on any challenges and ensure the smooth delivery of projects.

We will be updating Kickstarter to let you know how we are progressing. You can also follow us on Facebook to get the latest studio news.
