Each painting of this series is the result of the relationship between Andreea Hartea and the artist portrayed. Their meeting, the interview, the trust the subject develops, the finger print: these are all essential elements to realize the painting.
The exchange these portraits require to come to life does not live solely in the painting, but it goes on to the viewer. One artist after the other, Andreea felt the urge to collect the paintings in a book, which is at the same time a census of contemporary Italian art scenario and a way to fully enjoy the series.
The book is a 30x40x5cm hand made box, clad in Imitlin. In it, packaged in fabric, unbound pages on two layers present the method. On translucent paper is the fingerprint, in the works’ colour, while a monochromatic painting is on the 220 grams Fedrigoni Freelife Vellum white PAPER. Name of the artist portrayed, year, dimensions and technique are on the back, hand numbered by the artist. The limited edition book is a collectable which transcends its own nature to gain new life on the walls. ‘Emotive Potraits of Italian Artists’ is one of a kind work of art: it describes subjects by a new, revolutionary language which favours instinct as opposed to reason.
Subjects of the book are Italian artists, well-konw and respected in Italian art establishment. The 10 so far portrayed are: Masbedo (Jacopo Bedogni and Nicolò Massazza), Vedovamazzei (Mariastella Scala and Simeone Crispino), Pietro Ruffo, Silvio Wolf, Luca Vitone, Vincenzo Castella, Valerio Berruti, Nunzio.
The emotive portrait represents the experiences that built up the subject’s personality. It is an art work based on analogies between emotions and the surrounding world.Using hypnosis, the inner traits come to light and memories are taken outwards. The dimension of the painting, the chosen finger print, the colours of each line and the leading colour together represent the subject’s personality.
The painting has two layers: the coloured finger print is paintend on a silicon polyester foil, attached to a monochromatic canvas. Behind every chosen colour lays an experience, and the most important one determines the background’s colour. The dimension of he painting is based on the subject’s perception of his ego. The result is an art work overcoming logic and nourishing emotions, using instinct as a mean to know ourselves and the others.
Hypnosis isn’t but logic; it is indeed a pretty natural phenomenon, something we experience everyday. We live a hypnotic trance, for instance, while watching a riveting movie or reading an engaging novel, while listening to a rapturing lecture or to a capturing music. In other words, every time we are focused, absorbed, captivated to the point of forgetting space and time around us, we are under hypnosis. We live, in other words, in a different state of consciousness, somehow close to sleep (hypnosis comes from the Greek hypnos, which means sleep). The hypnotized person, unlike the common idea, is not unaware of is doing. He is vigil and relaxed. In this state, the brain id analogic, prone to imagination and overview. This condition is very useful because allows us access to resources we only partly are aware of and that would be neglected otherwise.
During the last 12 months Andreea Hartea has met with 10 artists, but she will focus her energies and resources on this project, to widen and finished by the end of 2014.
The prototipy is ready, the
cataloguing has begun, but she needs help to fulfil her task.
She needs your help and trust to reach her goal.
Getting in touch with the artists, meeting and interviewing them in their home cities, order the needed silicone polyester, canvas, paints, paper and boxes, getting the printing done: all these take times and money.
Her goal is to make this new approach known to as many people as possible, inspiring and nourishing art lovers.
If you agree with her goal, then help her reach it.
If you like her project, support it as you may: talk about it and show it to your friends, share it on social-media, send it to you mailing lists, post it on you blog: every help counts.

Risks and challenges
Andreea Hartea is one of the very few artists in the world using hypnosis on her subjects.
With a 150 history, it is quite a new world and it rises a bunch of perplexities, due to an imaginary of raptures and control loss. All the same, no one of the artists Andreea got in touch with ever refused to go through with it. To finish the book Emotional Portraits must be realized and when the last one will be ready production will start. We will commit to the deadline given to Kickstarter’s community and to update about our progress.
