Hello friends! I am hoping to create a giant SNOWFLAKE INSTALLATION with a group of students from Queens High School of Language Studies to hang inside the entrance of Chelsea Market in New York City. This will hopefully be part of Artists & Flea's popup store this 2013 Holiday Season. The installation will be roughly 12 ft x 12 ft and composed of 1296 4" x 4" tiles! WOW.
...but wait, there's more!
These tiles will be more than tiles for an art installation...they will also function as HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS. Hopefully when the installation is taken down in December half of the ornaments will to be given to children within New York City and the other half will be rewards to KICKSTARTER Backers.
So please help support SNOWFLAKE INSTALLATION so we can see it become reality! We are hoping to raise enough money to fund the materials, transportation, and time for this community artwork. Materials include glue, scissors, origami paper, wrapping paper, ribbon, wood tiles, beads, string, wire, paint, brushes, glitter and snacks. Transportation includes shipping the materials to the high school, and then moving the tile ornaments to Chelsea Market for it's installation. And time, well...it's New York City... Time is Money!
Risks and challenges
So far I have been fortunate to successfully connect with Melanie, the principle of Queen's High School of Language Studies, in order to create an art club of high school students to help make the SNOWFLAKE INSTALLATION. I have also received approval from Ronen and Georgia, two individuals that help run Artists & Fleas inside Chelsea Market for permission to use the wall space ideal for the SNOWFLAKE INSTALLATION display. Lastly, I successfully connected with a Sarah, a woman who runs an organization that distribute toys to New York children. So, with the parties involved on board the biggest risk and challenge is...JUST DOING IT!
