We have reached $3,700! Jennell Jaquays will create a two-page illustrated map of the known land for the beginning of the book, and all backers will receive bonus digital desktop art of the map!
- At $3,900: Jennell Jaquays will also create a map of Kadyn-Marik's village, to be included in the first chapter. If we reach this goal, all backers will receive a bonus short story which takes place in the mapped village in ancient times!
- At $4,500: In addition to all previous additions, Jennell Jaquays will create six small illustrations, one for the top of each chapter!
- At $5,200: The six chapter-heading images created by Jennell Jaquays will be upgraded to full-page illustrations!
Lectricis® Publishing is getting ready to publish the first book of Rachel Oranger's new trilogy, Legends of an Honorable Mage. (Rachel Oranger is a pseudonym used by the author.) We're here to create the cover art, and we would like to work with Jennell Jaquays. Some of her work is shown in the video, and her sketches related to this project are below.
Jennell Jaquays is an illustrator with 15 years of experience with computer games. She has also done covers for Dragonlance anthologies, among other game cover work.
Our goal is $3,400, which would yield approximately $3,060 after Kickstarter-related fees. Jennell's initial quote was $2,500, depending upon complexity. This leaves a margin of roughly $560 for the cost of backer rewards and shipping. This is a slim margin when one considers the shipping costs for poster tubes and heavy books. We are hoping to exceed the goal and add physical books to lower reward tiers. See stretch goals above for how "extra" money will be used. Jennell Jaquays has been working with Rachel Oranger in order to accurately depict various characters and races before compiling these elements into cover art. Below are some of her sketches. More of her work can be found on her studio page.

Risks and challenges
The good news for backers is that fulfillment of their rewards will be readily accommodated even if the novel fails to sell. The money this project asks for will simply fund the cover art and the cost of backer rewards. Wall posters can easily be printed and mailed without any success on the part of the novel. The same can be said of printing, author-autographing, and shipping copies of the published novel.
That being said, we obviously wish this novel success. If Rachel Oranger's series sells well, we will be able to hire Jennell Jaquays to do the next cover with proceeds from this book, and the following from that one, and so on. Our marketing scheme will take much of the "if" out of that statement, but the future is always a variable in such equations.
Assuming we reach our goal, there are only very unlikely setbacks which will keep backers from getting rewards. These unlikely scenarios include Jennell Jaquays becoming becoming incapacitated during the process; Rachel Oranger suddenly refusing to work with Jennell or vice versa; and an alien race deciding to disintegrate all art supplies on the planet Earth in order to watch how humankind responds. In the last case, there's not much we can do. In the first case, we will keep backers updated as to whether the project will be delayed or we will be seeking a new artist. In the second, we will keep backers updated as to negotiations and whether, in the worst-case scenario, we end up using a different artist.
Delays are more likely than project failure. The time frames listed for backer rewards are longer than what we expect considering Jennell's time estimates. Posters will most likely be sent out on time, as well as notebooks bound with the cover art and bookmarks. However, if Rachel does not get her edits done by the deadline, our release date could be a bit later than planned. This could postpone backers' receipt of autographed novels. If this does happen, we will be sure to keep all backers promptly updated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
