Students from the GW Childs School and residents from the Point Breeze and Newbold neighborhoods unite to beautify green space.
The One Love Garden is being created to help bring together the people of the South Philadelphia neighborhoods of Point Breeze and Newbold with the children and faculty of the GW Childs School. The project will turn the green space of the Childs' playground into both flower and vegetable gardens incorporating beautiful mosaic murals and sculptures created by the students from Childs School and members of the neighborhoods. The project will be organized and lead by Maria Pandolfi, the Dean of Students and the Art Teacher from the Childs School, with the assistance of The Clay Studio. The ultimate goal is to establish a beautiful public space which can be shared by everyone in the area. Two thousand dollars ($2000USD) is needed to purchase the supplies needed and to pay for some instructional fees.

We have created artistic projects like this before. The opportunities to be gained with the full funding of the project are enormous. The students of the school, along with the members of the community will be unified in creation. Together they have begun to create the garden by cleaning the spaces and planting flowers, vegetables and bushes. The next step is the creation of the tiles for the mosaics and the sculptures. Students and neighbors will band together to create the art that will define the space as one of peace, unity and brotherhood.
