This is our third feature film and absolutely THE largest, boldest and most intensely, powerful and insane story yet!
Renowned award winning entertainment journalist and infamous boozing drug using partier Ken Dumanski is crashing. The years of rock n' roll level of excess, knocking glasses, sharing mirrors and pipes with the elite artists of the world have taken their toll. On his body, mind and his family. In an effort to find some balance and health he takes a position as a professor at his alma mater, a small New England school of higher education. Soon he finds that the magnatism of his old fraternity lingers and, despite the strength and support of his wife, Stephanie, and two young daughters, Ken begins to slip. Is their love enough to keep him from walking off the cliff?
a little behind the scenes footage to whet your appetite.
That's all I'm going to say about this film. So how about a little background? History certainly can be a fun thing to trip through and take a look at so here you go.
Seven years ago I embarked on the path of making independent films, after a conversation with my brother Mike. We had discussed combining the experiences of our lives into one monster film, but then opted to make two different films. "Brothers in Communion, "our first, focused on his experiences. This one is a bit of insight into mine. Adapted from an autobiography I've been working on for quite some thyme, the "Fraternitas "script has elements of my life inside the walls of a fraternity in the 1980's when decadence was a way of life. I even had that bumper sticker on my car and lived, breathed at drank and even sometimes slept it each and every day. That is until my mind nearly turned to mush.
Now that the mind has been washed clean of the harsh overlay that drugs and booze does to a mind, what remains are the beautiful keys that have unlocked many doors of perception and have allowed me to develop this script, this film.
some thoughts from Ken Dumanski himself on sobriety.
So I have spent the better part of 5 years writing, thinking, imagining how this story will look, honing , sweating over microscopic revisions, until it was ready. Now many of the most talented performers in New England have accepted roles and are ready. Such luminaries as: Diana Porter, who is playing Ken's wife Stephanie, Kirst Callahan, who plays Ken's secretary Ashley, Karrie Whitefield who plays a fellow professor, Vanesa Leigh who plays a fellow professor, Sheila Nichols who plays Ken's mentor Doc Martin, Christine Hunt plays the hardnosed prosecutor, Roxanne Nichols plays the defense attorney. Robin Larson, Matt Tokanel, David Santori, Wayne Vachon and Nick Riendeau play some of the primary Tau Sigma brothers and Aurora Grabill, Taylor Smith and Kat Sanscrainte are part of the sisterhood. And so many more brilliant souls have joined the cast of over 50.
This story was written with two themes in mind. One is the cautionary tale of what drug addiction can and does do to a person and their family. The other a more realistic dark look inside the secret walls of one of America's most notorious private organizations, the fraternity. Decadence, drug abuse, misogyny, hazing of new perspective members. Much of which is often hidden in plain sight, yet still a mystery to many.
Our Dir (as I like to call him) Director Bill Nichols, comes to us with an extensive amount of experience in character development and our Director of Photography, kick ass photographer; Jacob Benjamin Taylor and also Bobbi McClellan and Bender St. James man a second and third cam uber brilliantly. From our Sound Master, Lee Kenyon to the production assistants all are incredibly talented and deciated souls.
Primarily, your contributions to this project will help us to secure the college campus locations we need to rent. Additionally, your funds will go towards covering the cost of insurance for the project as well as; prop purchasing, feeding and hydrating our team and to purchase and/or rent additional lighting and other equipment we will need moving forward. And, hey if someone of you with real deep pockets wants to dig very very deep, or if all of you make one giant green leafy pile o cash we will most definitely go out and sign us a couple of my dream Academy Award and "name" actors to play some key roles in the film...Union rules, they need to be paid and housed and all that jazz, but certainly having one or more of those big name folks in the film will only increase the ability to spread the film worldwide to audicenes of every age (cept for children, they shouldn't see some of the scenes) and make "Fraternitas" an even bigger and more powerful film.

Not only will you get those rewards we've set up for your generosity, support of our team, but you also have my and ours absolute and unwavering heartfelt thanks for climbing on the bus and being a member of our team.

Risks and challenges
Well folks, when one sets out to make a film, especially an independent film, there is risk involved. Of course even in Hollywood there's also the chance that producers/investors won't get a complete return on the money they put into a project. But we aren't looking to spend hundreds of millions of dollars, although it would be nice to have that kind of budget. We, all of us on this project have extensive experience in the making of film and it is through our sheer dedication to the story and the craft of film making and devotion to each other that we know any obstacle we face; from finding locations, to finding cast members, to securing insurance will be met, and are being met, so that you who have put money into our mural will get the best possible quality and entertaining film that will rival even those with the largest budgets simply because we all love what we are doing and believe in this project.
For me, Rick Dumont, this is my third feature film that I've put together and, as with everything every moment is a learning experience. And I know that I have gotten continuously better at building a team both in front of and behind the camera as well as in the gathering of locations, props, etc that this film is going to be our best to date and is certainly a story that will be gripping, tear jerking, entertaining and educational all rolled into one. Everyone involved in this film has dedicated themselves to making this an absolutely astounding film and I fully believe that it will be so, especially with the infusion of some money that will only enhance the quality of the final product.
The money that you folks our there provide as you join us on our quest to bring this story to the silver screen (festivals like Tribeca, Toronto, Berlin and more) will go towards being able to secure locations that perfectly suit those needed for the story, being able to ensure that we have all of the necessary props and wardrobe for the scenes and cast, to ensuring that the final sound edit, score, opening sequence, effects and editing are all done at the highest possible level.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
