WATCH Milkmaid - a short film awarded by DAVID LYNCH and accepted into CANNES Short Film Corner & Join us on the journey of making the sequel - LAST TREE STANDING.
Our next film - Last Tree Standing - is a sequel to the short film Milkmaid: a tale of a farm girl, who becomes a medium for the forces of nature and she seeks out revenge for a crime committed against it.
Last Tree Standing continues and expands upon the story of Milkmaid.
It is a dark fairy tale set against a dystopian backdrop, that follows the story of a Treeman - the last tree standing, who tries to restore the forest, despite the threat of a hostile human territory.
* Last year, David Lynch personally selected Milkmaid as the first place winner in the David Lynch MA in Film scholarship competition.
* This year, Milkmaid has been screened at Flickerfest - Australia's leading Academy Accredited and BAFTA recognized International Short Film Festival.
* Most recently, Milkmaid has been accepted for the 2015 Short Film Corner at Cannes Film Festival!
Agnes is currently a recipient of a full scholarship at the David Lynch MA in Film.
While Milkmaid was based around an old Slavic folk tale about a forest witch called Baba Yaga, the sequel will be based around Milkmaid's descendant - A male woodland spirit.
DOES HUMAN LIFE MATTER MORE THAN A TREE'S?
The story will follow the events of the first film. It will have similar themes, but different story, settings and characters.
The human race cannot survive without nature; does human life matter more than a tree's or are they interdependent?
CENTRAL DRAMATIC QUESTION:
Will the Treeman manage to restore the forest?
WHAT DO WE NEED THE MONEY FOR!
CAMERA & LENSES
We have a Camera and Lenses, but we will need to rent a Remote Focus System, Matte Box, Filters, Monitors and various other bits and pieces.
Its all about the lighting - This film is going to require an extensive amount of lighting equipment. Your contributions will help us make this film a visual spectacle - one where you as the audience will enter into a different world.
A professional dolly would go a long way towards making this movie as cinematic as it possibly can be.
PRODUCTION DESIGN, PROPS & SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKE-UP
To create the world of the Last Tree Standing is going to take up a very large part of our budget - the above elements are crucial to making this film a reality. Our director believes in the importance of Production Design - here is an example of a prop built by Agnes.
A well fed crew is a happy crew.
We have a lot of contacts - but it is always nice to pay them at least something for all their hard work - this will help us to get the sound design, colour grade and vfx completed to the best possible standards.
Submission fees are expensive, but we need to do it if we want to see Last Tree Standing on the big screen. Your pledges will help us submit our film to all the major international film festivals around the world.
Kickstarter keeps 5% of all the money we raise - but we couldn't do it without them! We'll need a little extra in the budget to cover this.

WHERE ARE WE RIGHT NOW
Last Tree Standing is in pre-production. We’ve found all our locations, and started with some key concept drawings for the film’s aesthetic. We are busy planning the shoot and we are in the process of assembling the crew. During the campaign we’ll be continuing this process by: casting actors, and we will be starting to put together our extensive amount of production design needed for the sets. Shooting dates are set for mid April 2015 with post-production to continue during the following months.
Also PLEASE REMEMBER we only receive the funding from Kickstarter if we hit our full target. So, we’ve started with a lower and more achievable goal of AU$18,000 – but we hope to push on and raise AU$30,000. - This will help with making sure we don't have to cut any corners while shooting.

Risks and challenges
What if you don't reach your goal?
Every Kickstarter project must be fully funded before its time expires or no money changes hands. We are confident that we have the skills and talent to make Last Tree Standing into an amazing short film - the money you pledge will only transfer if we hit our goal, allowing us to enter into production and see it through to completion with the right amount of money.
As with the making of any film there will be challenges along the way. We have worked on and Produced enough short films to know the realities of making a film. Will the weather hold? Will there be enough time to shoot the film? Will we have enough money left over for Post production. We don't know all the answers, but we promise we have thought of back-up plans for every problem we anticipate.
This project is a thesis film - If we don't finish the film - No graduation! We will complete this film no matter what obstacles come our way.
