We're making Frances Stein because:
A. We love suspenseful movies!
B. We've made 8 horror/thrillers and know what we're doing.
C. There aren't enough female mad scientist movies!
The answer is D, all of the above, of course!
If you know anything about Big Biting Pig Productions, you know that we are a micro-budget production company situated in western Kentucky with a reputation for FINISHING what we START!
We may not have the biggest crews or the biggest lenses on our cameras, but we have the biggest BALLS! (yes, even PJ!). We do what everyone else says we can't.
We make movies outside the Hollywood machine.
We don't rely on formulas.
We don't rely on CGI.
We are a GRASSROOTS production company. We love our fans. We deliver to our fans. We listen to our fans. Our fans are part of our "productions."
You might have contributed to our 2013 Kickstarter for The Caretakers which we premiered last June (2014). The movie received a terrific review in HorrorHound Magazine and is now up for a Rondo Award for Best Independent Film! If you gave, we thank you -- we are very proud of that vampire story with its Big Biting Pig twist! And we hope you'll contribute again!
If you weren't part of that one, now is your chance to become a “piglet” and get on board for the new production, Frances Stein! We have some funding secured already, but we have BIG plans for this movie and that's where you can help! Your dollars will go toward enhancing production and marketing so more people can share the OINKY fun! [And if we go beyond our goal, we'll be able to do EVEN MORE!)
So how did I come up with the idea for a female Frankenstein?
Well, I didn’t start there -- I started as I always do, writing a story about a female character in an interesting situation. In this case she's a female scientist, and that got me thinking about some of my favorite old movies like The Brain that Wouldn’t Die and the Island of Dr. Moreau, and Frankenstein and all its variations.
And I thought, you know, I can't remember the last time I saw a good female mad scientist movie.
And that was the beginning. Since then I’ve been developing every aspect of the script to play on the familiar plot elements AND to turn them upside down. I’m so excited about this story. I have had more fun writing it than anything else I’ve ever worked on.
We've begun light production. We're scheduled to "kick" into gear in early April.
The reason we’re running this Kickstarter is to help with production and marketing. We make good movies -- not doubt about that. We have a fan base that grows exponentially with each movie we produce.
We know how to make a movie on a dime, and we won’t waste a dime of your money. We think you’ll get a kick out of some of our rewards.
So please. Push the green button. You won't regret it.
Risks and challenges
We've completed and premiered every single movie we set out to make. That's our guarantee.
You can see for yourself on our website -- we've produced 8 features since 2008, and our most recent, The Caretakers, got a great review in HorrorHound magazine AND was nominated for a Rondo award for Best Independent Film!
Risks and challenges always present themselves, but we have a proven track record of overcoming these when they come up, and completing our productions on time.
